Potty Training.....

Anyone have any luck, tips?

Matthew (Christopher's twin brother ) is potty trained and I was hoping Christopher would catch on, because he imitates everything his brother does.

I just dont know how to approach this one.Chat Icon

Re: Potty Training.....

DS has no interest whatsoever.

We were successful for ONE weekend 3 months ago. Pee, poop then done. No more!

Lately he will sit with his clothes on on the potty when I tell him to go peepee in the potty.

Re: Potty Training.....

I think we're going to have to try the underwear approach next and see if that helps.

Right now he'll sit on the toilet but doesn't do anything. Honestly he'd rather flush the toilet a hundred times.Chat Icon

Re: Potty Training.....

We JUST trained Ryan this past week successfully!! He is 4 and this is LONG overdue.

Ry is the type of kid that if he doesn't want to do something, he won't, which is why this was so delayed. But I noticed that he hated to be wet or dirty and asked to be changed a lot, and KNEW when he had to go also. He also would sit on the potty occasionally to pee, but not consistent and only when he told him he had to. He also is dry at night and wakes up dry.

So last week we ditched the diapers cold turkey and never looked back. He was resistant at first, and had a ton of accidents, but we stayed true to telling him that we ran out of diapers and they are for babies only. He didn't like it at first but with the constant praise and reward system he got the hang of it and is doing great. He asks to go now and finally pooped on it (with a huge fight since he was scared to go) yesterday.

What worked initially for him to pee on the potty was telling him that if he went, he could pick out any toy he wanted. This was his incentive. So once he went, he realized it wasn't this big deal he was making it out to be and was ok from that moment on with peeing on the potty. Same with poop now too.

At school he still has some accidents, but I think that is because he is leary of using the school toilet.. its unfamiliar. At home he is 100% trained.

I am so proud of him! And he is so proud of himself.

Add Bry to the list! He knows that "Pee and Poo go in da potty"...Ok good...I sit him, he sits and sits and sits and then...Pees in the showerChat Icon

Our family trainer told me to hold off til the summer. Let him play outside most of the day. Bring the potty out. When we see him starting to go, grab him and sit him! She said hes not going to like the pee pee running down his legs.
So, this is what we'll shoot for!
He turned 3 in Jan! Shows interest when someone else (like a cousin) is going, but, for himself..eeehhh he can't be bothered!Chat Icon

Re: Potty Training.....

I had a very hard time with DD. She was almost 4 and a half before she was fully trained. Her SEIT helped us with the process.
What we ended up doing was using a sticker chart but it was a visual one. She was really into playing with animal figures at the time, so I'd go to Target and buy a bunch of figures. Then I put one in a place where she could see it but not get to it. Then, the sticker chart had a picture of the animal. I'd put a #1 and then the picture of the animal. If she successfully used the potty, she'd put a sticker over the #1 and then get the animal. Then we'd have #2 and #3 and the next animal, etc.
This way, she had 2 visuals of the prize. It worked really well and she was trained in a few weeks!
Good luck!! Potty training stinks!

We got the same advice from ds school.

Since that convo, we've tried and put him in underwear and he held it all day. When I told his teacher, she said that's a huge sign he's ready. So today I'm sending him in underwear over a pull-up (don't want him to have an accident on the bus). I'm hoping that she gets him started during the day so I can follow through at home. I feel like she expects me to just do it at home, but I don't really see the logic in that if he's in a pull-up all day at schoolChat Icon

By the way....he LOVES the video potty power. Hopefully it's got him interested enough to do this. I have a bag of books for him to choose from once he goes and if that doesn't work, there's always fruit snacksChat Icon

Wish us luckChat Icon

Also, Diane, on babycenter there's a 3 day potty training method where you basically let them run around naked from the waist down for 3 days straight. It may be worth a tryChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
