Saw this last night on the news.
I immediately put in a call to the Commissioner (of Nassau) to pass the word along to the NYC Commish. I want to put the family in touch with Kenneth's doctor. This Officer has a similar injury and had a very similar life saving surgery -- just like Kenneth. And with the two year anniversary of what happened to Ken coming up tomorrow I just feel like we are MEANT to help this poor man.
The Commish got back to me and is passing the word through the PBA Presidents... We are waiting. Dr. DeFina has offered to help him (in this crtical stage is can be SO important to get him help NOW) -- and then we can work to get him into Kessler.
I hope he pulls through!!!!!
I thought of you and your brother when I heard about it too. My DH was at the hospital again last night and said there has been no change but they are staying hopeful.
I am sure Kenneth's story can be of great hope and comfort to the family.
Thank you for getting involved like this! I am sure my DH will be there again tonight and I will let him know what you have done!

Ken's doctor was in Manhattan tonight visiting his daughter. I asked him to do me a HUGE favor and just TRY stopping by. While I was notified by the Commish that Nassau's PBA prez is going to get in touch with NYPD's PBA prez in order to pass the message along I got antsy -- so, I just asked the doc to stop since he'll be in that general area anyway. He immediately agreed. He has a friend who is an NYPD Chaplan so he asked him to go with him and kind of introduce him to the fam so he can offer his help.
When someone you love has a brain injury - and it just happened - you usually have NO clue what the injury is, the unbelievable length of time it takes to get any type of better, etc. and all the docs are telling you that you can't do ANYTHING BUT just wait around to see if they may or may not recover you feel so desperate. Then, to have someone like Ken's doc who's success rate with injuries like this is around 87% it's like being intro'd to an ANGEL. So, that is why we felt we HAD to help.
Keep me posted through your DH. I'm hoping the doc was able to get in touch with the fam when he went there tonight. He was so nice to say yes when I begged him lol lol.
And literally, he's the only person in the country actually treating people with these types of injuries b/c the old school of thought is basically "they are on their own" "it is in god's hands".
