So, give me a reality check re: job search.

I left my corporate career to teach almost 3 years ago. I'm certified in Social Studies - I know, I know. I was lucky enough to be a long term leave replacement for 1.5 years but that ended at the end of January and while they like me there, there simply is no spot at all. They do have one retirement in the middle school but she is not being replaced.

I just had a baby and am just now getting into the job search. It's been two years since I've really looked because last year I really thought I would get more than a half year out of my district.

I know it's even worse than it was in 08 though. When I heard about the NYC layoffs I knew it was pretty horrendous.

I have an excellent resume and great references but if there is no spot, there is no spot.

So tell me, ladies, exactly how bad is it? Is there pretty much no chance for September?

Oh, and I signed up for the NYTimes website but it seems to be the same as Monster? Is that true or did I miss something?

If anyone from another subject area has any advice or tips I would really appreciate it. I feel like I've been living under a rock with the baby and all.

Not sure about the island, I'm a city teacher. From what I understand now there is a hiring freeze.

I've got a great resume and references and the interviews haven't been flowing yet.

I'm math and business certified and ever since being laid off last school year I can count on my finger the number of interviews I have received vs resumes being sent out.

Its a tough time and the positions are going to be very scarce.
