New House Questions
Hi ladies,
I was married in January and things have been really amazing and wonderful. Our next big step- my husband and I are closing on our first house on Tuesday! SO excited  However, we have been living together for over a year but don't have much in the way of nice furniture though.
So here's my question- when/where did you find good deals on nice furniture? We are in the market for a full bedroom set, dining set, and living room furniture. How long did it take? Any thing I should be careful of or ask about?
Also, how long did it take you to get your homes completely set up and livable? We have to refinish all the hardwood floors and paint, but besides that we don't have much in the way of "work" to do. I have NO idea how long it's going to take to pull things together though...

We got our living room and dinning room sets from Raymour & Flanagin. It was deleverd n set up in our house in 3 days. Decent prices and so far good quality. :)

i love our bobs living room furniture. our bedroom set could be a bit sturdier, but i still like it.
raymour and flannigan has great stuff, a little more expensive and i've heard good things about ashley furniture as well! have fun shopping!

DH and I just went furniture shopping this weekend and stopped at Bobs, Macys, Raymour and Ashley. They all had really nice stuff. But Bobs had the best deals (in my opinion). They had packages where you can buy 2couches, the coffee table, two end tables, and 2 lamps for under $1,000. Where the other stores one couch would run you that much. For us we are going to end up buying from Bobs.

I have heard good and bad reviews about Bobs. Some say not so good quality, but from what ic an tell its totally fine. SOOOOO reasonably priced. They also have fabulous customer service. DH and I recently bought a bob-opedic mattress from them (their take on temopedic I guess...) and its great!

we are closing this tuesday hopefully with no problems. we are getting practically every room in our house for under 10k at bobs furniture... can't beat that... people i know who have the furniture have been happy so far so i went w/ it being that the price was too good to pass up!

DO NOT GO TO ROOMS UNLIMITED ON RT 112. We ordered furniture from them on Sept. 4th. We got a sectional, sofa, two side charis, coffee table and a bedroom set. We were promised to have everything by the end of October the latest, we didnt get our first delivery until 2 days before Thanksgiving. They brought us the sectional, sofa, THE WRONG 2 SIDE CHAIRS, BROKEN COFFEE TABLE, and bedroom set. They came back the week before Christmas to replace the "glassless, useless" coffee table they left and still, no side chairs. I have gotten nothing but excuses from them and am still waiting on my two side chairs. So if you can help, do not go there.

I have a very similar story with rooms unlimited... The whole place should burn to the ground... Long story short: Ordered a couch through them that was in stock, took 3 days to be delivered, and eveything was fine... no complaints... Figured why not get a dining room table and coffee table through them too... Coffee table took about 3 months to get delivered and come broken... send it back and said i wanted a refund... That took another 2 months to get that $$ back... Dining room table finally came after 3 1/2 months and thankfully nothing wrong with it... but they never deliver when they say they are going to and make up excuse after excuse of why you dont have your furniture yet... Its disgusting.. I wouldnt send my worst enemy there...

we closed on our house the middle of may 2008 we moved in the end of june 2008.
it took us that long to paint the entire house. we had pergo floors put in. that we paid in cash. central air was put in as well. petro was able to get us a line of credit. should be done paying that within a year. we bought all of our furniture from raymour and flanigan. took a few days to deliver. we opened up a card with them. no interest. not sure if it was 3 or 5 years we should be done paying them within the next 2 months. i'm sure im missing something

My bedroom set is from Raymour and Flanigan -- I'm very happy with it and it was cheap!
My living room set is nice from Macy's -- I think we overpaid since the cushions are already quite deflated and it's only been roughly two years. I also bought a buffet from them that I am happy with.
I ordered my dining room set from a catalogue from a discount store -- it was 3, 000 for wood table, 6 chairs and a china cabinet. I LOVE the china cabinet - the table is nice, the chairs are a little richety. I will probably replace the chairs at some point.
My best buy was my travertine coffee table and end table from Maurice Villency -- they were pricey bit I will have them forever.

Okay so I'm totally FREAKING out now. I don't think DH and I can handle anything else going wrong.
We got our bedroom set, minus night stands. Were told that our living room was in, when it got delivered it was the wrong set but they said to keep it as a loaner. I was calling for a loaner anyway.
I'm going to call tomorrow to check on everything I guess.
Man I wish I would have checked the boards first.  We did have a personal recommendation but come to think of it, they messed up their headboard order.

If you want to freak out even more, check them out on better business bureau... they have a horrendous reputation... i was VERY close to reporting them myself... and if you do a search on them, there are hundreds of reviews on them about customers complaining of wrong order/waiting 2 yrs for their furniture....
My advice to you is to hound the sh*t out of them... call them everyday to get updates... dont let a week or 2 go by because they do not give 2 sh*ts about you once they have your money!

You have to call this place called Paradise Furniture in Bayside Queens. My DH and I have saved $100s if not $1000 of dollars on furniture that we've seen at R & F and The Place on Route 110. You have to find out who the manufacturer is and the style and just bring that information to Bruce at Paradise! Good Luck!

it depends on the items you order. they go into the computer and see if they have it in stock, if so they can get it to you in like a week and a half pretty much..
