Getting EI services

DS was evaluated yesterday. I referred him to EI b/c he has been having some behavioral issues in daycare and also at home. The psychologist who evaluated him is going to be recommending based on her clinical opinion services. He does not qualify based on cognition or language. She stated that when you look back at kids who have ADHD at 5 or 6 they all look like my son but not all kids who look like my son have ADHD. I am also waiting for the OT to call back to find out if she will be recommending services based on sensory deficits. I know I am going to have to fight for the services since his cognition is coming out so high. Any suggestions anyone can give me? Anyone also have/know a strong behavioral spec ed teacher/social worker to work with DS in his daycare?

Sometimes EI can be very strict when it comes to qualifying. My son tested out and they cut his Ed. services from 5x60 to nothing. That is not saying you won't get it, I'm sure there are always ways around it.

They may offer you family training for behavior.

I do know an Ed/family trainer. She has really helped me with my son. We are in Bay Shore. She works in the surrounding areas. FM me if you would like her info.

Sorry to hijack but can you FM me this info? And what does an Ed/Family trainer do with your DS? Is it a different style of therapy?
