The budget was cut so much and compounding with the other cuts since 2008, it is dismal. We are a very small school but we have to excess 4 teachers! It is crazy!

I'm in the city, Queens. The funny thing is we are a very small school compared to other middle schools and still 10 were cut. Bloomberg is painting a picture that jobs will be saved when in actuality he is completely fooling the public. The scary thing is that I was the one with low senority (7 years) so I can see why I was picked, but 4 people had 17 years or more....I feel really sorry for them.

I am so sorry!! Hopefully the schools will have funds reinstated and you can get your position back over the summer. People don't realize how important the rally is today. They think just because there are no more "layoffs" that everything is fine. When it is not. Congress is currently considering another stimulus. Go to aft.org for info.

I wanted to add I have been excessed twice...and it is NOT layoff. Hopefully either you secure a position through open market or your schools budget opens up and you go back.
You may act as an ATR or sub in your school or they may place you in a school w/i your district.
You DO have a right of return for a year to your original school.
You still get pay and benefits.
You will get a position hopefully by Sept
