synthroid/ grapefruit
My mother in law told me today that eating a grapefruit while on synthroid is not good.. Is that true? Thanks. If yes.. Why?

I haven't heard anything about grapefruit, but I know certain meds and vitamins should be taken a few hours a part or it could affect the synthroid effectiveness. When you fill your synthroid it tells you about it on the fact sheet.

My father is on synthroid and he's not allowed grapefruit but I think it has more to do with heart meds but I could be wrong.

According to this, there is no or minimal interaction b/w synthroid and grapefruit.

Yes you can have grapefruit while taking synthroid. The main meds you shouldn't have grapefruit with are cholesterol (Statins)and blood pressure meds (calcium channel blockers). There are others though.
