cross post from parenting, not sure if i should worry about ds or if i'm overreacting
DS is just about 11.5 months. Hes been walking since about 10 months, and hes always on the move- always wants to go, go. Very active. BUT- he has very few "skills". I know, hes 11.5 months, I jsut remember DD doing much more at this age. He doesn't clap, he doesn't wave, he doesn't point. He has nothing even approachign a word. He does babble- has ma, da, ba. I've been working on clapping with him- I clap his hands for him, while saying "hurray!". If I let go, he wont do it on his own. I;m nto going to say I do it consistantly, but definitly do it. he will sometimes flap his hand back and forth when I say good bye, but I think its coincedence. I have a very difficult toddler - terrible 2's to the worst, and I feel like I might have neglected him somewhat . wiht dd, i used to read to her, pioint to things in books, I do that with him too, but much less, for sure. he was a very difficult baby- reflux, hardly slept, cried a ton. even now, he is very clingy to me, and still lots of screaming with me. around my nanny, hes much better. he loves playing peek aboo, will look for objects- if i pull a toy away, he will go looking, he can maintain eye contact. its just the lack of "skills", for want of a better word, that worries me. He will reach for things he wants, but he mostly just picks up and gets them. I dont know what to think. I was by ped last week for a well visit, he wasn't really concerned at this point.

I would honestly give it some time...if by 15 months there are no words or clapping/pointing/waving it wouldn't hurt to get an eval. I remember my pediatrician saying she wanted to see those things by 15 months...when johnny was not pointing/clapping at 15 months and not really playing appropriately, that is when we called. Best thing we ever did. Those things eventually did come..but he did all those things late. Around 18 months he did everything...
The fact that your DS plays peek a boo, looks for hidden objects, maintains eye contact all sound good!! There are all normal ranges for certain things and 11.5 months is still young. I wouldn't worry too much! And remember that kids are all different!! My second son has been doing everything since 8 months but hasn't walked yet...and johnny was doing that at 9 months, lol. They are very opposite in that way!!
Just enjoy him and don't worry too much. I bet it'll all start happening in the next few months, he sounds great!

Does your child respond to his name by turning around? You said he doesn't point, how does he let you know he wants something?
I wouldn't say you have neglected him or there is something you aren't doing! However as a professional in EI I have to disagree with the other post and have an evaluation done to be on the safe side, its NEVER to early. Also it has been my firsthand experience that PEDS blow things off (not to worry you) but go with your instinct!

I would wait a bit also. Like closer to 15 months.
For pointing, use "hand over hand" leaving his pointer finger lose and prompt him when he wants something. Bring object he wants closer, use hand over hand, and give the object.
DS did not know how to point. We used food (since food is a HUGE reinforcer for him) and he mastered the skill in 1 week.
How does he ask for what he wants?

The thing is though...11 months is very early to expect all those things. I am a HUGE proponent of EI and will tell anyone who is worried to have their child evaluated.
But i think a LOT of moms (not saying this particular poster) are getting so so worried these days because their child hasn't done something at the same time their friends child did it...
I don't know. If a mom has a gut instinct telling her something is wrong, of course go for an eval. But if things seem fine and there is just one or two things they aren't doing yet, I wouldn't get crazy.
And my pediatrician had a son with autism. And she was the first to tell me that she wanted to see those skills by 15 months. There were obvious other flags there that prompted me to call EI. But i never would have if he simply wasn't clapping or pointing just yet.

Of course 11 months is def early, I just see no harm in having an eval done. I shouldn't generalize about pediatricians I guess it all depends on your doctor!

Re: cross post from parenting, not sure if i should worry about ds or if i'm overreacting
thank you all for your replies
DS will respond to his name, definitly turns. I know what he wants- I dont knwo if others would know, but I do. He will start screaming if he is in reach of it, will jsut go and get it, if he is not- like in highchail, he will basically bounce up and down and scream. Usually, if he sees me preparing his food, thats when Iget the screaming. He LOVEs ot eat
I tried actually teachign him to point, with hand over hand, he got really upset, pulled his hand away and ran off. multiple times.
