Please enlighten me....

What the H E L L is up with that stupid constipated smile and small wave you get from other kids parents when you run into them?

I just got back from Open House at the Middle School. I swear everyone has such a stick up their butt. Would it really be so hard to give someone a genuine smile and real greeting? Chat Icon

Re: Please enlighten me....

heh. Maybe they are intimidated by your beauty?

Seriously - I know the look you give and I actually catch myself doing it to parents when I feel like I should greet them but I don't know them or only remember them vaguely. It's a leftover thing from junior high where you don't want to seem overly enthusiastic and have the other person look at you like.. "Who the h*ll are you and why are you grinning at me like that??"

I am dying here Chat Icon Are you in my head??
I read your post, Heather and automatically thought - jeez, I give to constipated smile sometimes. Is that the official term? haha. I've sort of gotten better at not doing it as I've gotten to know some people better. I suffer from this notion - that I may have met someone 20 times but I feel like they might not know who I am anyway. Now I'm going to work harder on my smooth move smile this year.

But all kidding aside, sure some people are just plain snots but it often is that you could be totally wrong about how someone meant a look or greeting. I think some of the kids think I'm nuts. I like to call them by their first and last name. ie "Hi Mary Stevens" "Hi Elizabeth Marshall" - Not every single time but a lot. I know a lot of the kids from the classes and from extra curricular stuff so I goof around with them. I actually think they enjoy it (hope they do?), I guess I'm more comfortable with kids?

I think we should all go into this school year going out of our way to say hi in a very cheerful way and ignore the constipated looks. Strolling into the school yard like we own it! Yeah!

I make up names for my kids friends...Emily is Emmaline, Rachel is Raquel, etc....

I can totally understand the constipated look and small wave from people that maybe I dont know very well. But most of these people I have known for the past 5 years my girls were in elementary school. They know damn well who I am...

I guess it could be worse. I could be getting the fake hug and air kiss that I get from this one parent who I know hates my guts. (It's a long story really but I kind of caught her stealing and I think she is afraid Im going to report her to the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County) I just give her this face Chat Icon and she babbles on incessantly trying to win me over...Chat Icon

Im debating whether or not I want to go into this school year with my usual bubbly personality or maybe I'll perfect the constipated smile and Miss America wave. Chat Icon

Here's another one for you. I was just at another GTG with parents that I have met a bagillion times. What is up with acting all aloof and making it like you've never met me before? Are you that afraid to say hello? Seriously...just say hi and smile like you mean it!!!
