My first thought would be to call the town's Animal Control.

Poor thing!!!

I know people who own pit bulls always defend them, but the FACT is that although pits may not always be people aggressive, IT IS IN THEIR NATURE to be dog aggressive. They cannot help it.

I know several people who carry doggie mace or sticks with them when they walk their small dogs because of stray pits or escaped pets.

I never respond to such statements, but I can't help myself here...

They cannot help it?? Are you serious with that statement?
It is unfortunate that an irresponsible dog owner did not properly socialize and secure their pet, but that is in NO WAY the dogs fault. A domesticated animal is very much the product of his/her surroundings. They know what they are taught, and nothing else.
My "vicious" pitbull gets along with all other dogs, and puts up with constant annoyance from our puppy and has never once shown any signs of aggression. My dog has been attacked and "bit" by small dogs and all he did was remove himself from the situation, he did not react at all. I have never in my life encountered an aggressive pitbull. So it seems that, in fact, they can help it.

It's funny because small dogs are actually much more dog and people aggressive, they just fortunately cannot do as much damage as a strong breed.

A dog that holds a certain trait, which also includes things such as herding, hunting for small game such as rats, or being dog aggressive is NOT going to be eliminated by an owner. Sorry, the dog has this in his genes for hundreds of years in some cases, no wonderful owner is going to be able to eliminate the dogs desire to attack other dogs.

One vet I know does not bring his dogs to the dog run in certain places because there are a lot of pits there. If vets are in agreement that pits are naturally dog aggressive, I believe them. Besides, if you hear about dogs getting attacked by stray dogs, its always a pit.

Are you serious that you have never encountered or heard about anyone you know get bit or had their dogs bitten by a pit?? I call BS on that one.. Ask anyone that works in a vet office how many dogs are injured by pits, and then ask anyone that works at a hospital how many people are injured or killed by them.

I am a believer that pits aren't necessarily human aggressive, but they are dog aggressive.
