Work/career question
Discussing this topic with a friend last night:
1. Does anyone dream of quitting their professional job to work at a part time job that takes less skills (i.e., quitting a corporate career to work at Starbucks)?
2. Has anyone actually done this?

Re: Work/career question
You mean if they paid the same? I've thought about finding an office job or anything close by to avoid work in Manhattan and the commute, but I know that no matter what a job can become boring and just a job that you don't want to go to anymore!

i do..i used to love working in retail. Not that retail requires less smarts, but I have to do so much thinking at my job, I wish I had a job where it was more creative, I guess.

Re: Work/career question
I'm a social worker, and you can ask any of my co-workers...............I say at least once a week that I want to quit my job and go work at Starbucks. Hell, at least I would get benefits which is a large reason I work now (DH is self-employed and we can't afford them otherwise).
It also makes me sick that I work IN healthcare and have to pay for ALL of our family health insurance. (I know that's another thread!).
I really feel that my job is for the birds many days. I often run around in circles going from Suffolk County to Queens and back and nothing gets accomplished but miles on my car and lots of aggravation.

Re: Work/career question
I think often the grass looks greener on the other side.
I used to work in restaurants all through college and looking back, they $ucked then, and I am sure they would $uck now going into that kind of environment as a seasoned professional with lotsa "kids" who have yet to learn the ways of the world when it comes to work.
Also places like Stabucks/Panera are my happy place so I am sure that would be ruined if I worked there!!
My all-time favorite job ever was working in a group home. It was not like being at work at all. If it paid more than $21K a year though, I could see myself retiring there!!!!!!
(Maybe it went up to $23K over the past couple of years but that's still not enough to live on for my family).
