How do you keep your (larger)dog safe in the car?
We are getting a golden retriever puppy in 7 weeks. Obviously the initial ride home will be on a lap. How should I plan to keep puppy safe in the car when small and when later when grown?
I have a Honda CRV, I have a 3 year old child in a car seat. I'd like to keep it simple but want to make sure doggy is safe. Doggy will be in the car with us at least a few times a week.

Get a seat belt harness. I have a 75 lb. lab and got it for him at Petco

That looks like a great idea. Does it keep them from moving too far? I want to make sure puppy and DD can't reach each other while I'm driving.

It pretty much keeps them in whatever seat you put them in.

Re: How do you keep your (larger)dog safe in the car?
If we are in my husband's car we put him in the crate. If we are in my car, he goes in his doggie car harness. I hope you reconsider holding him on your lap, even on your first ride home if possible. But I wouldn't start the car harness for a few months until he gets out of the teething stage and can learn how to use it safely without getting twisted. All it takes is for one stop short and remember it is physically impossible for you to hold him with your arms.
