OLAS
Any idea how to make your resume stick out on OLAS.
I applied to two different jobs between last week and this week. I know they are probably getting tons of resumes but I really want a chance to interview. Any tips? I try to submit the resume as soon as its posted but I'm not sure what the receiving end looks like?
Do schools see every resume? Are they able to electronically sort through them?

Re: OLAS
My resume isn't anything spectacular. When I applied for the job in the district in now, I really didnt have alot of experience on my resume. Yet, they still called me for an interview (through OLAS) and I got the job.
I honestly think like any other teaching job search..its random.
Best of luck!

Re: OLAS
I hate OLAS.
I've been told that districts will put in one or two key words, and that's how they pull the resumes to actually look at-but these words are different for each district.
It's HIGHLY annoying, because I wish somebody was actually looking at my resume.
Sorry, this turned into more of a vent..but I love teaching, and 2 months into the school year it's killing me that I'm not able to do what I love

I'm right there with you. I feel like I have submitted so many resumes on olas and the amount of jobs that have called lately or so few.
I figured I am experienced - but not overly experienced where I would be too expensive and I am dually certified. You would think that would stick out just a bit!!!
I am suppose to start perm subbing next week but we all know thats not the same. While its great to be paid daily - I really don't want to "babysit."

Re: OLAS
I think they probably just type in random key words they want and go from there. The only call I ever got was for a TA job when I applied for a teaching job.

Re: OLAS
Years ago somebody on here said this and I think it's so true - OLAS is where resumes go to die! I think in most cases it's totally bogus - the districts know who they are hiring, but are legally required to post so they throw it up on there. I always had better luck with the NY Times.

Re: OLAS
Just to give you some hope - My principal found me and emailed me from my resume on OLAS. When I went to my pre-screening interview she had a stack of resumes on her desk and asked me what set me apart from them. She said one of the things that set me apart was my cover letter.
I have renewed my resume each year just in case I don't get tenure and last year a school found me and this year a school found me. They're out there looking - not many, but there are a few out there for sure :)
Don't lose hope...it'll work out!

Re: OLAS
I didn't use a form cover letter, made it from scratch and kept it very personal regarding the experiences my students, colleagues and parents had with me as a teacher in my previous schools.
