Salary Question

Okay, I've been getting really excited because a job that I interviewed for is in the process of checking my references. I had 3 interviews (HR, Hiriing Mgr and Senior Staff). I did not want to ask during any of these interviews about salary. The HR person did ask me what I want and what I am making. I told her something comparable to what I am making now but if it's the right opportunity I will take a cut (which is the truth).

Now that they are checking references, at what point will I actually find out what the salary is? Is it too late to ask and just wait for the offer?

I want this job so badly, but what if the pay is substantially less? I will definitely be disappointed.

Re: Salary Question

When I recently interviewed they asked me what I would like to be making. I told them a number and the interviewer told me okay that is in the ballpark of what the starting salary for the position would be. So Im surprised they didnt ask you. When you get hired they will tell you what the starting salary is IF it is really much lower than what you are making you can always turn the job down.

Re: Salary Question

Yes, I realize I can always turn it down, but I'm wondering if employers consider a person if their salary is way below what I'm asking. In other words, would they have moved forward with me if what they are offering in salary is not what I stated during the interview? I hope they took that into consideration! And, I'm wondering if it is too late/inappropriate to ask at this time? I really feel like I never had a chance to.

Re: Salary Question

I hate that waiting game. it really wastes everyone's time, because they may not even be close to the number you need.
