Has anyone ever had pneumonia?

I started with a tickle in my throat late Monday. Tuesday I woke up with a cough and I was very hoarse. By Tuesday night I had a fever and was wheezing. I went to the dr this morning and they took a chest dray and it's pneumonia Chat Icon

She gave me a strong antibiotic. Told me to take anvil every few hours for the fever which I can't seem to break and I'm on bed rest until Monday when I get rechecked.

How long did it take for you to feel better? I am basically quarantined in my room trying to stay away from my kids Chat Icon

Re: Has anyone ever had pneumonia?

I"ve had pneumonia twice, hospitalized for both (5 days each time). obviously it's NOT something to mess with so do exactly what the doctor tells you.
I was on neabulizer treatments for weeks, had high high fevers (like over 104) was very weak etc.
Basically just rest, drink a lot of fluids, take your meds and ride it out.
It's a terrible terrible thing to have.

I hope you feel better soon!Chat Icon

What antibiotic did you take? They gave me 500mg levoquin daily and I made the mistake of reading the two pages of possible side effects Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Has anyone ever had pneumonia?

I started with a cold about 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. Week before diagnosed w/ Bronchitis - didn't get better, went for chest x-ray and pneumonia. I was on avelox - stronger the lequin (per my doc). I didn't get a high fever but was very tired. Still going on with the tiredness and coughing. I'm hoping by my birthday in Feb it will be gone! My office mate is getting tired of my coughing!

Hope you feel better soon.

Re: Has anyone ever had pneumonia?

I've had pneumonia twice. It honestly only took me 3-4 days before I felt better once I started the antibiotics. I wasn't 100% for a while after that - but I definitely could function! The first time was worse because it took me so long to get to the doctor (I refused to accept how sick I was).

Twice.

When I was 12, I had it for Xmas. I basically had a 104 fever for 10 days.

Then when I was 24, I had it again. I had a wheezing and gurgling sound in my chest. It took a while to ride it out because I was so winded from it.

Re: Has anyone ever had pneumonia?

Once..took months until I was all better but a few days until I could function again. Took Eyrthromiacin.

Get an inhaler. It will make all the difference.

Also switch out the advil and tylenol. Take tylenol and then at the 3 hour mark take advil and vice versa. You will always have some sort of pain reliever in your body and you won't have to wait until the other wears off. They are two difference meds.

Re: Has anyone ever had pneumonia?

I had pneumonia, and I was sick for 3 weeks. However, I was 7 years old, and I also got bronchitis on top of it.

MIL had a very, very serious case of pneumonia. She was sick for about a week, hospitalized for another, and was not fully recovered for another couple of weeks.

I think it depends on how bad you have it. I hope you are much better soon though! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
