I asked my Ob to confirm my miscarriage with a blood test and he said there was no point. why do i see on the boards that some girls were tested. should he be doing it?

Re: blood test
it does sound strange...
usually doctors make you come back over and over for blood tests until your beta is negative...

this, yes they should be checking to make sure your beta goes down

Re: blood test
my doctor isn't checking my blood either. I didn't realize this wasn't the norm?

Re: blood test
my dr did not have me come back over and over again to make sure the beta was down to 0.
i don't think it's the norm. a lot of people don't have this done.

Re: blood test
I was checked weekly after my natural m/c this past summer until my beta was under 5. When I had a D&C in 2007 I was only checked one time a few days later - they were confident then since they had removed the tissue. Of all my friends that had m/c this was the case.
I've only had one friend where they didn't do this and 5 weeks after her m/c when AF hadn't come, they tested her and her beta was still high. They did an u/s and realized there was some tissue left and then had to do a D&C - it was devastating for her to have that 5 weeks later.
I would ask to have at least one blood test a week after you m/c, just to confirm the #s are going down.

Re: blood test
I was checked every few days after mine to ensure my beta went down to zero. You should really just ask him again and see his reasoning behind it. HTH. Good Luck hun!

Re: blood test
I never had a blood test. We saw there was no heartbeat. After the miscarriage I had another ultrasound and confirmed everything was gone.
