ETS: Subbing counts!

are you sure that every day subbing counts?

It says on the TEACH site that non full time work will be prorated. So I assue that means if you were subbing the 2009-2010 school year, but not every day, it won't count as a year, only the days you worked will count. It also says, if you sub in several districts get letters on letterhead of how many days you worked there. So that seems to me that subbing counts...I hope!

It only counts when you have mentoring experience though. I tried a few months ago and they wouldn't give me my new certification because I didn't have the mentoring. So now, every 2 years I have to get an extension. It is terrible and expensive. Chat Icon

Re: Future jobs

Have you thought about or tried charter schools? There are alot of them popping up in NYC. They are not unionized, they have longer hours and there is really no security though...but it's a job.

Re: Future jobs

Not good...the district offered a decent retirement incentive this year and some people are retiring but I have a feeling they are not going to fill all of those positions. We have been told that there will mostly likely be staffing cuts.

You need to be mentored for 1 full year. They would not let me waive it. I give up.

for the NYTRS 20 subbing days = one month experience. I wonder if they use something similar.

Re: Future jobs

I voted terrible, but I would have voted for something even more terrible if there was the option. Our PEL lists remain untouched, and prinicpals can circumvent that list and hire people who just walk into the district because the union was unable to demand that only open spots are filled with the excessed teachers. We excessed something like 40ish people and only one of us has been hired back full time. I hate it.
