Anyone's pet know when you are sick?

So Belle has been with me since (seems like forever) but actually since Sept/Oct.

About two months ago I had a bad stomach ache which woke me up. Normally she sleeps next to my hip, but doesn't like to be held on my stomach or to my chest. That night she was laying on my stomach, walking back and forth on it, leaning half her body over my tummy, etc. I thought it was just an odd coincidence.

Well, last night my stomach bothered me while I was sleeping. So I turned on the light to read a bit while I waited to feel better. Belle again made a whole ritual of walking across my stomach, laying completely on my stomach, laying half her body on my stomach.

Now I really do think she knew something was wrong with me. So odd, no?

I do think animals have a sense of when their owners are sick. I have a Toy Poodle who is ALWAYS by my side but hardly around DH. Well, DH has been sick for the last 2 days and the poodle is constantly around him..just looking at him..as if he knows hes not feeling well. Its an odd thing but I do think they know

I never noticed if she reacts to when im sick... but she reacts to whem im upset...she wont leave my side if im crying!

My first cat, Petri did this. He was not the most affectionate cat...he liked to lay by my feet more than in my lap or near my head. One time, I was so sick, laying in bed...and he jumped up and laid down behind me and put his paw on my back, like he was trying to spoon me lol. I couldn't believe that he did that.

Definitely. My dogs are so intuitive. They know when I'm angry, sad, sleepy (my dog, Irwin, runs down the hall and waits by the bedroom door), sick, etc. If only DH was so observant.

Once when DH was not home and I literally had to drag myself home and passed out on the couch. When I woke up to my cat was sitting on the edge of the couch staring at me.

I think he's very intuvitve of his parents..

Definitely! I've been a bit under the weather the past 2 days, and the cat - who is not a lap cat by any stretch of definition - spent an entire hour sleeping on my lap yesterday. Today she keeps coming over to the arm of the couch and rubbing her head against my shoulder, I guess to let me know she's here for me (since she didn't want to get pet about half the time).

Before I even knew I was pregnant, the dog kept coming over to me and putting his head in my lap. Prior to that he was more of a Daddy's Boy, always going to my husband and only really coming over to me when he wanted something out of me. But at that point, he just came over and hung out with me. The one time I had morning sickness and DH wasn't around to comfort me, he even came into the bathroom and kept nudging my back . He wanted to make sure Mommy was ok since Daddy wasn't there to take care of me.

It's amazing how our pets know when something isn't right. We were in a bad car accident 2 years ago. When we got home from the hospital, Lilly must have known that we couldn't even bend down to put her leash on, so whenever she needed to go out, she would hop up on the couch or bed so we didn't have to bend.

When I was pregnant, she would just come over and lay her head down on my belly and sigh.

my one cat knows when i'm upset and she comes to me if i cry. she will sit by me and all. it's soo cute.

i often wonder if they know i'm pregnant yet. i'm almost halfway through the pregnancy and so far I don't see any signs of them knowing. though i don't know what i would look for.

Yes. Our cat has little stuffed animals she carries around - they are the beanie baby minis. She has one, a giraffe that she will only bring out to you when you are sick. It's odd. Then when you're better she will take it back and put it in it's normal spot.

On a side note, she also knows when her toys are sick. Her favorite is a polar bear. So it gets lots of use. A few years ago she had him in her mouth, jumped up on the couch and dropped the polar bear on my lap. I looked at it, and he had a tear in one of his seams. So kitty brought him to me to do surgery.

15 month old DS has been sick and for the past two days will only nap with me holding him. The other day while DS was sleeping, Kitty jumped up on the chair and licked his nose. Then yesterday while he was napping on me, Kitty jumped up snuggled on my chest and put her paw on DS shoulder and she napped too It should be noted that Sushi is NOT a lap cat and 80% of the time runs when she sees DS coming

Yep...my dog laid by my side all weekend while I was sick in bed. Best little nurse ever!

Not odd at all.

My dogs are very in tune to when DH and I are ill. Last year when I was sick, one of my dogs, he never left my side, even if I laid in bed all day and night, DH would force him to go outside to piddle or whatever, but he wouldn't even leave me for food.

yup Otis always does and he also know when Riley is sick or not feeling well he will always follow her around
