How do the admins treat you?

I'm wondering how administrators treat the teachers at schools other than my own.

At my school some people in the administration are EXTREMELY verbally abusive. They walk into peoples rooms and if they don't like something, they tear it down.. they yell at you .. It's horrible. I KNOW this is not what it's like in MOST places- or I assume at least..

Anyone else out there dealing with a similar issue? It's crazy......... and since they are making the rounds, I'm trying to be prepared for what they will say if they come into my room and throw a fit.

I'm not at all exaggerating ... they made half the teachers on one of the grades cry this morning.

My administrators are so paranoid.....We have parents show up to IEP conferences with attorneys! (Special Ed) When there is any type of conflict they cower. So pathetic. They do not have our backs at all.

They also love to play "turn the tables" games. It is truly getting on my last nerve. I fave fantasies about winning the lotto....and not leaving my job but staying and telling them exactly how I feel. Every.single.day.

Seriously, things have changed so much in the ten years I have been teaching.

WOW! I am pretty lucky. My admins is good to us and I have told them this on many occasions.

However, I have been there. My previous school was like yours. Yelled at infront of the kids. I was there a little over a year. My hair was falling out and I think I was getting an ulcer. My mom came with me on the last day to get my things and she just said to me there is no way in HELL you are coming back here in September!!!

Edited because you never know who is reading this and my principal just randomly came into my room to apologize for not allowing me to transfer during the summer

Where I used to teach, I had pretty good admins I thought.
On the negative side, they were kinda clueless about how to set a good tone in the building, they did/said things that were kinda insulting to the teachers (don't think they did it purposely though), liked to micromanage & harp on things, and the morale was pretty low because teachers didn't feel especially appreciated.
However, they weren't mean spirited or threatening, they were very nice & I liked them as people. If I needed to leave early or something, or was having some sort of issue, they were generally pretty understanding.

Mine are good. I have not always been so lucky. In my second year an AP yelled at me in front of my class, in a not very nice way. She probably realized later that my kids had NO respect for her at all because they were furious at her for doing that.

But I hear WAY too many horror stories from my NYC friends. It makes me worry about what will happen to lots of teachers if LIFO is overturned.
