Can't shake this depression...

has anyone else gone through this? My stepdad (more like my dad he raised my sister and I) passed away 4 months ago. It was sudden and unexpected, he was only 51. It's like everyday since that day hasn't been the same. I feel like everyone is moving on around me yet for me my life is still standing still, idk if that even makes sense I just can't describe it. I'm a wreck. I have been short with DH, snapping at him. Why am I doing this to him, he's trying to be there for me and I just keep pushing him away. I'm in so much pain. My son is only 6 months old. I'm happy they got to meet yet devastated that my son will never know him and that my stepdad won't be here to watch him grow up.

The way he died is also tearing me apart. I keep analyzing every single thing, going over it, all the what ifs. I know that nothing can be undone and what's done is done but I can't stop.

Im so sorry for your loss. Chat Icon

It takes time. Four months is not long when you have gone threw an incredible loss.

Just feel what you feel and eventually it will get easier and easier.

Death is so hard to deal with because it is so final.

When my dad passed I was depressed for a long time and would cry randomly all the time. Just give yourself some time to heal and also a break--dont get down on being depressed, feel what you feel ya know

I'm so sorry. Losing a parent is incredibly difficult.

I lost my mom very suddenly 2 months ago. It's been rough.

Are you seeing a grief counselor? I was having similar issues and counseling (along with an anti depressant) has really helped.

Once again I'm so sorry. Many hugs and prayers for you and your familyChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Can't shake this depression...

My younger brother died suddenly in May 2009 and life has not been the same since. The sudden death of a family member is really hard to accept especially when the person is young. The hardest part for me to deal with was the fact that my life really was never going to be the same again. I would highly recommend finding a therapist that specializes in grief counseling- I do not know how I would have made it through the first year with out help. The catholic church also has free bereavement groups. I found a book that did help in the first few months: I Wasn't Ready to Say Goodbye: Surviving, Coping and Healing After the Sudden Death of a Loved One. Re: Can't shake this depression...

time is a huge part of it.. i think you and your DH def need to talk about it and cry about it together..

in november, my daughter died after 5 days and then my MIL passed away suddenly 3 weeks after that.. my DH and i had exactly the times you mentioned and the only thing that helps is saying it out loud and talking to each other.. without my DH, i dont think i would be able to get through it..

i also dont think im ok day to day.... some days are fine and im with my DS and we have a great day.. but others im down in the dumps and miserable..

i hope time will heal for you and all of us.. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
