If a parent was going to write a positive letter about a teacher
I don't want to be too specific, but DD's teacher went above and beyond on something over the break, and although I know the principal is aware of the situation I was thinking about writing a letter thanking her so it would be in her file. Is that a waste since she's pretty close to retirement, so not going to be impacted by layoffs and whatnot?
Who should it be addressed to, the principal? Should we give the teacher a copy as well? Should we wait until the end of the school year or thank them now?
Also, the school's permanent substitute is involved and I'm thinking of writing a letter about her as well. Can I write about both in the same letter? Also send to the school's principal and copy the teacher? I worry for her that she'll lose that spot due to layoffs next year, and maybe that would be helpful to her when interviewing for a full time position, even if it's in a different district.
Thanks for any input!

I don't think it's a waste at all! I'm sure it would make her so happy to know that she has really meant something to your family. That's why we do this. I would address it to the principal, cc the teacher and give her a copy as well. As for timing, do it now that you are thinking about it. I think you could write one letter for both teachers just give them their own copies. It's very sweet of you to take tome to acknowledge her.

I agree. It's always nice to be acknowledged.

Def. write one! Even if she's close to retirement, she'll appreciate it. If you can, write one for her and one for the permanent sub. I would send it to the principal and CC the superintendent. As a teacher, I think it's so nice that you are doing this! I had a parent email me around the holidays a beautiful email and she sent it to my principal and the superintendent. It was my best holiday gift!
