Hip replacement?

I'm scared that mom may need this. Please tell me of success stories. She is 77 and not really that steady on her feet. Has osteoporosis and arthritis.

She's been having a ton of pain.

Re: Hip replacement?

My mom had a hip replacement in December. She's doing really, really well. In fact she drove down to Florida with my dad in January. She had a new type of hip replacement surgery, I want to say it was called anterior hip replacement? It's a smaller scar and faster healing time.

Hon, I'm sorry to hear about your Mom; My hip is hurt'in too, but I want to postpone replacement as long as I can. Most folks I know have had successful experiences. Mary

As a PT I can tell you dozens of success stories (all due to me of courseChat Icon jk)

Some surgeons are doing outpatient hip replacements now! Of course its for the younger more healthy population.

I can tell you that a hip replacement is much less painful than a knee. We have patients walking the next day in the hospital. Pretty routine.

Re: Hip replacement?

I have plenty of clients who had it done successfully.

The key is doing the physical rehab afterwards.

Re: Hip replacement?

So far the verbal from the radiologist is arthritis but she is in a lot of pain. We will wait until we get the written report by Friday.

I know that if her arthritis is degenerative enough it could mean a hip replacement.

I had a talk with mom yesterday and told her to keep taking the advil and tylenol every 4 hours so she can get some relief. I found out she was not taking it reguarly and letting herself get in pain. Once that happens it's hard to get out of pain.

Thanks for your replies. She knows that if she needs surgery she will need rehab and she is fine with that. She has a good attitude.

I think I'm more concerned with Dad.Chat Icon

Re: Hip replacement?

My dad had one last June at 77. It was the best thing he ever did. He still has other issues, but he is 100% better than he was at this time last year...he could not walk. We only wish he had done it sooner.

I can give you the name of the doctor, if it comes to that.

Thanks, I may need it.

Glad it worked out for your dad.
