at risk for ADD or ADHD?
What are the characteristics? Who would tell you that your child is at risk for ADD or ADHD?
Any info is appreciated!

DS was both evaluated by the child psychologist when entering in to CPSE and I also took him to a Developmental Pediatrician.
DS's characteristics are lack of attention span, need for constant redirection, impulsiveness, he has some hyperactivity although it is only at certain times, sometimes has difficulty following directions, difficulty following through in activities (will start coloring and want to do something else 2 seconds later, fidgety, difficulty waiting his turn, etc.
I noticed it when he was around 15 mo., however, when he turned 3 it became apparent when he started pre-school in a typical setting this past September. He has developed some behavioral issues from it because of the frustration and chaos he feels.

You just described my DS to a T. These terms are repeated OVER, AND OVER, AND OVER in his current evals.
I am also a teacher and I KNOW he has ADHD and I'm just waiting for everyone else to figure it out - however, no one has ever said the words, "at risk for ADHD" to me.
Was it the Dev. Ped or psychologist who said that or is that what you feel in your gut?

Sensory seeking! A TOTAL sensory seeker!
He gets OT but they are going to change his sensory diet and reinstitute the brushing protocol and the weighted vest.
Someone on here told me (sapphire?) that she heard that ADHD is Sensory integration dysfunction left untreated - on begets the other. I don't know if it's true but it makes sense.

I just bumped an old post of mine.
I have read that ADHD is due to an immature nervous system which can in turn cause sensory integration issues. Not sure if it is a theory or proven, but it seems to make sense.
I need to get DS on a sensory diet of some sort. My OT does NOTHING like that with him or for us to do at home. He was doing well with sensory for awhile but I have noticed it coming back with a bang lately.

He gets 2xOT at school but I'm thinking of getting sensory gym through my health insurance. Do you think that is possible?

Our agency has a sensory gym and she does do some sensory work with DS but I need a diet to carry through at home.
Our insurance does not offer coverage for OT sessions, only 24 speech sessions.
