Vit D

Recently my cardio took blood and found my vit D off the charts low. He said 3rd world country low and mentioned rickets!

Had I not had blood taken I would not have known. Does anyone have a vit d deficiency? What are the symptoms? I had no idea. And what long term effect would a lack of vit d have on me?

He has me on 50k mg a week! Not sure what the big dose will do and why I need it and of course I keep missing his calls all week. Chat Icon

Re: Vit D

I just found out that I have a Vit D deficiency as well. I had no idea. Mine are also very low. I am taking a large amount of vit D. My Dr says that fatigue and inability to lose weight are 2 of the symptoms.

Re: Vit D

Hmmm now that you mention it I do get pains in my bones. I had no idea that is a symtom. I do know that a lack of Vit D is not good for osteoporosis. i really should look into this.

I was recently told this as well. It's something new they are testing for.

Re: Vit D

According to Dr. Oz, the majority of this country is Vitamin D deficient, possibly because of decreased sun exposure. He recommends everyone take a minimum of 1000 IUs Vitamin D supplements in addition to your multi.

Vitamin D is especially important for women because it helps ward off breast, colon, and ovarian cancers; and without vitamin D, calcium can not be absorbed properly either.

Re: Vit D

I just had blood work done and they found the same thing. They told me to take a multivitamin with a least 1000 mg of vit D daily.

My doctor told me this too! He said that most of NY is Vitamin D deficient. I take a supplement as well but not as much as your dr has you on--good luck!

Apparently vitamin d deficincies are the newest fad. My dr said everyone is coming back with low vitamin D these days. I wonder why?

My dr wanted me to take a big dose too but I refused. I feel it's too soon to be sure such a big dose is needed or safe for that matter. JMO

Re: Vit D

I would just be sure you don't supplement and take in too much vitamin d, ultimately. From what I know about vitamin d, it's fat soluble so if you have more of it than you need in your body, you don't just naturally pee it out like you would water soluble vitamins.

Everyone I talk to lately has this, myself included. They couldn't detect my levels either. Which vit D level was low, there are two types, one that we take in from food and another we make in our bodies from the sun.

I am tired but I don't know if it's related to this or not. I'm supposed to take supplements but I keep forgetting to go and buy them. One day I will get to it.

I'm also Vitamin D deficient. It's the winter! Your body produces Vitamin D when it's exposed to sunlight. 20 minutes of sunlight (without sunscreen) a day is all anyone needs to have adequate levels, but it's hard in the winter.

I'm pregnant, and my OB put me on 4000 IU of Vitamin D a day.

Re: Vit D

Last year I had reaaaaly low levels of vitamin D. My doc said he never saw it that low in any of his patients before. I had to take 50,000 units once a week for a few months. He also suggested that I sit in the sun for 1/2 hour, either very early in the a.m. or an hour or so before sunset.

same exact thing. I had a level of 14!!! It was the worst he had ever seen. i had alot of bad symptoms from it.
I take garlic-cayenne supplements as well because low vitamin d is a large issue with cancer n aa study was just releaased not too long ago with the garlic killing off cancer something..ugh its late I will get u the article.
Very Low vitamin D is no joke at all it can have such bad effects thats u do not even realize its caused just from a deficiency.

Re: Vit D

I have extremely low vit D also. My initial level was 17. My mother and sister have this also...which makes me wonder if it is something genetic as well. When I first asked for the test, I had memory loss, joint pain, fatigue...so much so my symptoms resembled depression. I am on my 2nd 12 week course of 50k units a week, but my levels are rising- the last test I was up to 25. I have fair skin, so I avoided extended periods in the sun and I don't really drink milk.
Since I started the prescription, I have never felt better. My bones clicked for a good month or so after I started it, but I feel stronger and have more energy. What a difference it has made for me!
