Sleeping Walking

So last night around midnight- DS#2- starts crying in his crib; I get up to see whats going on and my DH says "who opened his door" I said; "I didnt go in there" and he says "his door was shut; I know I shut it!"

Creeps me out for a second; and start turning on all the lights to approach his room; there stands ds#2 standing crying; and DS#1 on his knees in the crib.... just staring at me...

I take the baby out and ask "Ryan; why are you in Brayden's crib"- no response.... I go onto say; "why are you up? Did you think it was morning?"

Still no response....

I leave the room; with the baby in my room and head towards my room/bed....

Ryan stays for a second; says nothing and then follows me.... he sits on my bed (again still saying NOTHING) and begins to stand and wobble all over the bed...

DH and I are looking at him like WTH are you doing???? Dh starts talking to him, and REALLY looking at him and then realizes he is still ASLEEP...

He sat up and was a little out of it; but eventually went back to sleep(or laid down and continued to sleep)....

This morning; when asked he had NO CLUE what I was talking about...and began to get a little defensive/embarassed when I told him...

All I can think about was how dangerous this could've been, and Im not sure how I can prevent it in the future...???

I slept walked when I was younger; and just grew out of it I guess...????

Does anyone have experience with this??? There is a gate on top of the stairs; and my house is "safe" (never any draws open; things on the floor to trip over) but I cant have him climbing on top of his brother in the middle of the night...

DS was recently diagnosed with obstruction of sleep/sleep apnea and has a scheduled surgery to have his tonsils and adenoids removed to correct it next month...Does anyone know if this is related to that?

I know that it's crazy, but I keep thinking of those people who do crazy things when they sleep walk; and the fact that DS was awake but compeltly asleep totally freaks me out! He was CLUELESS to what was going on; but managed to climb in and out of a crib while asleep (Im a REALLY light sleeper; and the room is directly across from mine; had he struggled to get in that crib I DEF would have heard it!!!!)

Re: Sleeping Walking

How frightening!

I used to sleep walk when I was a kid. I also used to dream talk. I still do that but I pretty much out grew sleep walking.

I know she actually tied a bell to my wrist when I was little because she was afraid I'd fall down the stairs. I honestly don't remember if it was to wake ME up or her up.. or if it worked.

I would definitely talk to your ped and see what kind of advise they have.

I wish I could be of more help but lots of hugs!

Re: Sleeping Walking

That would have concerned me too. My sister has slept-walked in the past. She has reheated food in the microwave and everything. I don't think she has ever actually eaten it, but we've known she did it because we have found the food the next morning. Maybe call the doctor who did the sleep study and ask if it is related. I think I've heard that it is often caused by something the person is thinking about, or worried about. But I'm not sure about that.

Other than putting a gate on his bedroom door, or DS#2's door, maybe you could put something like a set of Christmas bells on the door so that if the door is opened you will hear it and wake up. I think all you're supposed to do is gently redirect them back to bed. Good luck.

Re: Sleeping Walking

My older son sleepwalks. He has changed his clothes in the middle of the night, gone into his brother's room to sleep and tried to "do his homework" while sleeping. We are very careful to be sure he can't get out of the house, but other than that we just bring him back to bed and hope he grows out of it.
