Re: What do you take for Heartburn?
Prescription Nexium, and if I need something else I'll take Tums. Applesauce seems to really help sooth bad heartburn too when the Tums aren't doing it.

Prescription Aciphex. Was on Nexium, but insurance stopped covering it. I take 2 aciphes a day. Maalox Advance when it is really bad. And I find that either eating an apple or drinking 100% apple juice helps too.

Use this home remedy with caution. It makes me vomit. The first time it was suggested to me I tried it and got sick so I figured it was me not the remedy and tried it on two other occasion and I had the same result. I usually take Tums.

Re: What do you take for Heartburn?
i only take tums now. be careful with prescription antacids like nexium, aciphex or omeprazole. i was on all 3 at different points in my life and ended up getting a stress fracture in my leg b/c they interfere with calcium absorption. you also can easily become dependent (i.e. overproduce acid without them, which makes it very difficult to stop taking them).

Re: What do you take for Heartburn?
a) I'd be careful about taking the applesauce/fruit juice suggestions... those things actually have TONS of acid in them, potentially making stomach acid even worse
b) My fiance gets bad heartburn. He takes the PEpcid Complete which just became available ins tores againa fter a few months of backorder... it's a chewable combo of Tums and Pepcid and it works great for him.
IF it's not too bad, a plain Tums usually does the trick for me on the rare occasion I have heartburn.
c) for chronic heartburn, try PRevacid or PRilosec OTC, but follow the package directions... staying on them too long can interfere with your stomach's ability to produce acid normally. When used over the counter, it's kind of meant to act as a "reset" button, and then you're supposed to make dietary changes to minimize your heartburn triggers (cut out soda, fruit juices, spicy food, fried food, caffeine, etc.)
