Explain the Kindle to me
I am thinking of getting one but I was confused as to how you get the "books" for it? Do you pay for each one you get? How costly does it get?Do you get them straight thru the device or do another way....can anyone give me the details as I am completely ignorant to how it works.

Re: Explain the Kindle to me
I have a NookColor, but Kindle works similar with one big difference... currently on the Kindle, you can only get books by purchasing them (or when they offer free books, but those aren't the "new" bestseller type books). With a Nook, you can borrow books from the library and also lend books that you've purchased to a friend. I have 109 books on my Nook and I've only bought 5 of them! I haven't even tried to borrow books from the library yet and have read like 10 books this year for under $20. Compared to buying each book for about $10 each, it's a huge savings.
Ok so you connect via WiFi on your eReader, go to the store, download the books right from the device.
On the Nook you can go to Barnes and Noble online and search books, purchase or select them if free, and they will automatically load onto your Nook. Not sure if you can do the same through Amazon.com for the Kindle.
On the Nook you can also get books from other places, download to your computer and then plug in your Nook to load them on. Similar to what you have to do when you borrow books from the library for your Nook (again, this option is not available on the Kindle).
Hope that helps! And for what it's worth, I LOVE my NookColor!!!! I have music and pics on it in addition to my books, plus now you can put apps on it so it's very similar to an iPad type device.
