Marathon Training Plan

Hi Ladies!

DH and I are beginning to train for our first marathon! We both ran the Long Branch Half yesterday, but our training definitely wasn't what it should have been in the last month. What training plan did you/are you using for marathon training? We don't need to start from scratch, but I think we'd both probably feel good starting with long runs of 6 or 7.

TIA!

Re: Marathon Training Plan

Hal Higdon has some great plans. Since you aren't beginniner maybe try his intermediate plan?

I agree, can't go wrong with Hal Higdon. Although, I'm not a beginner either, and if I choose to run the full this year (2nd time), I will probably stick w/ one of his novice programs; he has a novice one and novice 2 I believe. The intermediates looked too intense for me. Good luck, that's great!!

ETA: Which full? And how great that DH is going to do it with you!

I would recommend Hal Higdonas well.

If this is your first marathon - you should not use the intermediate plan.

Re: Marathon Training Plan

Thanks ladies! I think I'll stick with the Higdon Beginner--I didn't train great in April so I want to make sure I have a great base before starting. I have 24 weeks until marathon day, so I can always add and adjust as I need to.

We're running the Marine Corps Marathon in DC. DH and I ran the Long Branch Half through Team in Training and we signed up on a whim in February. Now we have to! It's been really great going through this experience with him!

i'm running my first marathon this year too! the ING NYC one in november.

i'll be following hal higdon's novice plan. i've run 4 half marathons, but feel like i need to start with a beginner plan for a full.

I ran this race in 2011 --- right after the September 11 disaster. It is a beautiful race with all of the monuments and you will get plenty of crowd support as well!
