10k training plan?

Yup, as you all predicted, I am officially addicted!! I want to start thinking about my next race, a 10k, maybe in the summer?

Anyone care to share the training plan they followed for a fairly novice runner?

Re: 10k training plan?

I'm not one to follow training plans.

My first race was actually a 10k...so I had ot build up from 0 running to 6.2 miles!

I started in Dec for a May race. I started by running anywhere from 1-3 miles about 4 days a week. After a month that became 2-4 miles.

My longest run before the 10k was 8 miles (I would recommend trying to do at least one 7 miler- I always like ot do longer than the distance to make sure I can do it!)

I work on both speed and distance (usually one speed workout day and one long distance run=spaced a few days apart). The rest of the days I would run at a "training pace"

Hal Higdon plans are very popular and very easy to follow if you're looking for a ready-made plan!

Good luck!!

I've used Hal Higdon's plans for 10k's, halfs and for my first full. They really work for me and he has one for all different levels...beginner, intermediate, advanced. Try it out! Chat Icon

I am pretty sure that the C25K app has a 10K app as well to use after the 5K is done.
