What foods do you avoid?
I try to eat healthfully, but my weakness is cheese!! I can't stay away from the stuff. Just wondering what foods does everyone avoid when trying to eat healthy / lose weight.

Re: What foods do you avoid?
Cheese is my weakness too but I don't even try to avoid it because it is unavoidable. I use it in literally every meal.
I have eliminated almost all pre-packaged junk/snack foods. I try to avoid chocolate. I also try to use heavy cream and butter less. I avoid pizza and eating out.
It's hard to say what I don't eat or try to eliminate anymore because I focus on what I should eat and what I try to have more of. It keeps me thinking about the healthier choices and focus less on what I am missing out on.

Re: What foods do you avoid?
Processed foods question - what constitutes processed food? Are bread products processed? Pasta? I know these are probably things to avoid, but just wondering what makes something processed. Is cheese processed? ETA: what about cereal?
I try to eat lots of veggies and lean meats myself, but cheese is hard for me to give up.
I avoid fast food, soda, and dessert type foods - cakes, ice cream, etc.

Re: What foods do you avoid?
Processed foods are foods that have been manufactured in some way. Meaning that they have somehow been changed from the way that they are found in nature. Bread and Pasta are considered processed. Unless I am making the bread and pasta myself, I don't eat it. American cheese....Kraft, Borden, are processed cheeses. I would say that a lot of or most of the cereals out there are considered processed too.
Cheese was one of the hardest things for me to give up next to cereal. Once in a blue, I'll sneak a slice of cheese but I haven't had cereal in about two months.

Re: What foods do you avoid?
well technically processed food is any food when it is not in its original form but i think what is most important to avoid and people might be referring to is processed foods that have so many chemicals or added ingredients in it. It also loses vitamin content. Companies do this because it helps the food last longer in the stores and other reasons but it is toxic to your health and adds calories. prepackaged foods or premade foods can be made at home more naturally with the raw ingredients. this is why people go organic, raw, natural, etc.
stick to real cheese (like those sold in the specialty/expensive cheese section) not cheese that is overly processed (like most that are in the refrigerated section).
Processed foods are mostly everything in the aisles of the supermarket. boxes of crackers, etc. The fruits, veggies, natural cheeses, lean meats, dairy products, things around the aisles are the non-processed healthier items. But non-processed still has chemicals. Organics don't use pesticides, insecticides and chemicals.

A food is considered processed if it is altered from its natural state. So most packaged breads are processed b/c they contain preservatives but there are plenty of breads available that are all natural. The same goes for pasta and cheese...many of the products you will find in the supermarket are processed but there are tons of products that are not.

I agree! I don't even do my food shopping in regular supermarkets anymore. I only go to trader joes. Makes things so much easier and I get WAY more groceries for less money! Processed foods are mostly everything in the aisles of the supermarket. boxes of crackers, etc. The fruits, veggies, natural cheeses, lean meats, dairy products, things around the aisles are the non-processed healthier items. Re: What foods do you avoid?
I'll eat almost anything in moderation but I completely avoid: processed food (which for me includes low fat cheeses and margarine) fried food (don't like it) soda (don't like it) HFCS imported fruits and veggies (try to stay as local as possible)

Re: What foods do you avoid?
I try to stay away from OVERLY processed foods, as I call them.
And anything labeled fat free or low fat, and artificial sweetners. They mess with your body and are like eating pure chemicals and sugar. They also make your body crave what you are not getting - the fat and sugar.

I don't eat processed foods.
Organic foods can still be processed foods.
Bread, pasta, granola & cereal are all processed foods, they can be organic or 'all natural' but they're still processed.
It's probably easier to say what I DO eat: Grass fed beef Organic free range chicken & turkey uncured organic bacon Nuts & seeds fruit vegetables sweet potatoes eggs (i don't like fish or cheese but i would eat it f i did)
