4 y/o doc appointment and shots question...

I posted this on the parenting board but thought you guys might be able to help too....

So, DS has his 4 year checkup next week. He will start getting his immunizations that are required before kindergarten at this appointment. Do you/should I warn him ahead of time about the shots? What do you guys do?

We have a book that explains about germs and why we need to get shots. We read it periodically to explain why it is so important to get shots. When he has had to get shots (starting with the 4yo shots), we reminded him of the book and he understood better how important they are. So, in a nutshell, yes, you should tell him about it beforehand!

I dont tell her before hand...it makes things worse in DDs case.

I always discussed this with my son and it made it easier for him. I always told him the truth that it would hurt for a second but it would get better. This worked well for him.

But when my dd came around no way in hell I tell her before hand anymore cause she would be a lunatic before we even got in the car. I have actually put her in the car and driven her to the office only to watch her face crumble in shock as we arrive. Its against everything I believe in but otherwise I would NEVER even get her to the office.
