The power of the push up
I was never any good at them...and maybe I could do 5 "proper" push ups if I tried. At the start of my workout/diet plan (3 months ago), I struggled to do 10. I REALLY struggled. I decided to give it another whirl on Sunday and holy crap..I did 20! Consecutively, without a struggle. I continued doing them for the past 3 days and my arms feel incredible! I had no idea how quickly your arms can firm up from pushups (probably b/c I could never do them! ) but wow! Am I shocked!! I really think this is going to be the answer to toned arms that I've been looking for!

Re: The power of the push up
I know push up's are invaluable to fit arms & core. Do you think that the "girly" push ups are effective to start? My arms are so weak that I have a hard time holding up my body weight and I am not obese or anything---just chunky

I'm sure they are. Personally, I just never really felt or saw any results from them. I can't imagine that doing them wouldn't be effective to build up to the regular pushup though. I've been working with weights so I know that's how I built up my strength.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I should start some arm weights to tone up my arms. I jog 4 times a week but I know that won't tone my arms.

No problem! Yeah, I would say throwing in some weights will def. help!

Re: The power of the push up
I agree! I love doing pushups and I defintely see results.
"girly" pushups are a good workout as long as you're doing them the right way...make sure your butt isn't up in the air and your back is straight. If you're doign them right you'll still feel it!

Good point!! Doing 5 pushups the right way, are more effective than 20 if you aren't doing those 20 the right way.

Thats exactly what my trainer said!
Before I could do a good push up he would actually have me drop my entire body to the floor and then push up trying to keep my body aligned- it can be a challenge and a great workout!!

Re: The power of the push up
You've got me motivated to add some push ups to my routine. Something simple enough that I can do at home every night. Thanks!

Awesome!
I was reading an article in Men's health about how over doing it can slowly cause injury...but they were talking about doing 200 pushups everyday. That's not even possible for me so I'm not worried about my 20 a day.

Re: The power of the push up
Pretty much ALL i do is functional weight training which is a lot of body-weight stuff, push ups, pull ups, dips, squats... It’s amazing for your body and you can use your body more effectively then!
Awesome on doing that many, keep it up!

Oh wow! Really? I never really thought to do those types of workouts b/c I didn't think I was strong enough. I guess you just build up to it. I mean...you have a smokin body so anything that can get me within the vicinity of that, works for me!
