Re: Thyroid removed/thyroid nodules and/or or thyroid cancer
I had nodules on my thyroid that were monitored by sonogram for about 7 years. I switched drs when I got a new job, and she decided to do a biopsy. It ended up that I had papillary thyroid cancer and had a total thyroidectomy. I had my surgery in 2002, and 1 round of radioactive iodine treatment. I had full body scans at 1 year, 2 years and then 5 year. Now I'm just monitored by my endocrinologist for my synthroid levels and routine sonograms.
I love both my endocrinologist and thyroid surgeon. You can FM me if you have any other questions
Endocrinologist: Karen Schwartz - Woodbury (516) 364-7405
ENT (Thyroid Surgeon) Kenneth Scioscia - Lake Success (also has an office in Smithtown) (516) 622-3377

Re: Thyroid removed/thyroid nodules and/or or thyroid cancer
Hi :) I had a total thyroidectomy on March 21 of this year-I had stage 1 papillary thyroid cancer. I was/am being treated and followed by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. My Surgeon is Dr Snehal Patel 646-497-9161 (phone number for new patients) Dr.Patel is an absolute angel. Hope this helps..... Please contact me with any other questions or concerns-I'd be happy to help

Re: Thyroid removed/thyroid nodules and/or or thyroid cancer
i realize this is an old thread, but i did a search and this came up.
My husband is having part of his thyroid removed due to a mass found on it.
Can you tell me what the recovery is like?
the surgery is being done at Sloan Kettering by Dr. Shaw on monday. He's staying overnight and then goes home tuesday. We find out 7-10 days later if it's cancer.
