Keeping your Dog Cool
I'm looking for ideas to keep my dog cool this summer. I've searched online and found cooling beds and a Kool collar. Anyone use these and have any feedback? Any other ideas? My dog cannot swim and won't even go in the baby pool we bought him.

Re: Keeping your Dog Cool
Our dogs don't like the kiddie pool either. But one of them loves the sprinkler. We make sure not to walk them past about 10am, since it gets too warm and hot pavement on paws must not feel too good - they sweat from their paw pads. We provide plenty of water all the time, and make sure there's always shade for them to lay in.
One of our dogs likes to dig a trench and lay down in it, under the bushes too.

my doggy friends swear the by kool collar. We're going to get one for Casey. I also heard you can wet a bandanna and put it in the freezer.

Re: Keeping your Dog Cool
Actually, a vet would be a great person to ask - they'd know if any of these products are worth it or not.
If you have a dog with a double coat and people tell you to shave them to keep them cool - don't. It's a trend during summers now but it can cause more harm than good. The double coat protects and insulates from cold AND heat. It's like shaving your head expecting not to get a sunburn.

Thanks, that's actually a good idea. My vet specializes in the type of dog I have so he would be a good person to ask.
My dog doesn't have the double coat but my in-laws have a golden and they always shave him in the summer. I will mention this to them!
