Protein
I really want to amp up my protein intake a little. I already eat eggs, greek yogurt and grilled chicken. How else can I get protein? (I can't eat nuts and I'm not a huge fan of protein shakes).
Just wondering what other protein options there are out there!

Re: Protein
I add brown rice protein powder or hemp protein powder to my yogurt, in addition to smoothies. Other than that I would say beans.

What about a protien pancake??
Take one scoop vanilla protein powder 1/4 cup egg beater 1 splenda packet 1 packet gelatin (unflavored---and optional)
mix together and cook in a small frying pan like a pancake!

Re: Protein
hummus and avocados. i don't eat much meat, so I eat a lot of nuts, avocados and hummus.
Hummus is really easy to make - one can chick peas/garbanzos (reserve some of the water)...drizzle olive oil...a little garlic...a spoon of tahini (some people do PB)...salt, pepper and a squirt of lemon juice.
pulse in food processor or magic bullet makes it even easier!
I cut up pita bread and toast it in the oven (400 for 4 min) with a bit of EVOO sprayed on.
I love avocado sandwiches - a nice italian or hearty bread...sliced cucumbers...sliced tomatoes...sliced avocado...swiss or provolone cheese. a little salt and EVOO, a little balsamic...mmmmm
there's also soybeans (DS loves edamame - but I worry about the estrogen link)...peas...spinach...brocolli

Re: Protein
Fish, beans and cottage cheese are good sources of protein. You can also add nuts as a snack.

Re: Protein
Do you eat red meat? Sometimes I have a lean cut of steak for dinner. Or you could use ground turkey or ground chicken for various meals. Also there's beef jerky and turkey jerky for snacks, and I mix some whey protein powder into oatmeal for breakfast.

Re: Protein
You don't like protein shakes but how about Myoplex Lite or Special K Protein shake, its not ones you make yourself, you purchase them and to me they are sooo good. I actually get excited to drink one after my workout.

Re: Protein
Here's another version of the protein pancake that I like. (It comes from Marisa's blog that I think you follow too!)
Protein Pancakes
1/2 cup old fashioned oats 1/2 cup cottage cheese ( I used 4% fat) 1/2 cup liquid egg whites 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. cinnamon dash salt
Place ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth. Let batter rest for about 5 minutes (*helps make a fluffier pancake*). Heat large nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Coat with cooking spray, then using 1/4 cup measure, pour batter into skillet making pancakes about 4 inches in diameter. Cook until golden and flip.
Makes 6 pancakes. Each serving (3 pancakes) is 4 PointsPlus.
