Re: Summer Reading Programs

Also many public libraries have their own reading programs in conjunction with the local school district. I know at my library the kids get a small prize for each book read (i.e., a gift card for one free cookie at Panera Bread, a beach ball, etc.) and then a free book upon completion of the program. When they return to school in the fall, the principal announces the names of the kids who completed the program and they get an handshake from the principal (and yet another "special" pencil).
