If you've moved to a new district in the middle of a school year....
How did your child handle it?
We have an offer on a house (short sale). We and the Homeowners already signed contracts (we are doing a cash offer and with a short sale I guess this is the way it has to be done?) and we are waiting on the bank to either accept or counter. They have 120 days (I think) to give us an answer, and we are not allowed to back out or we lose the money we put down with our offer.
Anyway, we were hoping to hear something sooner than later but now it doesnt look like that is going to happen. Because it is a cash deal, once the bank accepts or counters (we are willing to go much higher - the listing price of the house is fine for us, so we are thinking we will definitely get the house) there wont be too much time in between for closing. BUT, the house needs a ton of work and we will not be able to move in right away. It is about a 30 minutes drive from where we live right now.
So, our options are to- 1. Enroll DD in 1st grade where we currently live. Let her start the year here and then move in the middle of the year. or 2. Our in-laws live in the district where we would be moving to. Do we change one of our addresses to theirs so DD can start the year in the district we are 99.95 sure we are moving to? (I KNOW there is drama surrounding doing things like this, but I believe if there is a situation that warrants it, it is ours)
I was extremely shy in school and had trouble making new friends, so I'm worrried about DD moving halfway thru. Although she is nothing like me - very friendly and outgoing.
I have serious anxiety over this, although I'm not sure why

I was able to register DD with signed contracts and a letter from our lawyer saying we intend to live in the house. So perhaps you can register with those documents in the new district? You should call them and find out what they require.
You still have some time to see how things play out but if you're definitely moving, I would start the school year in the new district.

I would start them in the SD you are moving to, rather than switch children mid-year. When I was in 2nd grade, we moved. My parents wold drive us each day to the new school even though we didn't move in until November. It made the transition to a new school much easier...

I would enroll her in the new school district if you're sure it's a done deal.
Also, so she's not starting off without any friends in the new school, I would see about having her spend some time in the ILs neighborhood to make some friends or put her in the district camp for some parts to the summer.

Since the move is more or less a done deal, I would definitely do this!!!
