Today was Hard
I was off work today, so DS stayed home with me. We played outside most of the day and went to the town pool later. It sounds lovely, and a lot of it WAS lovely.
DS has PDD NOS and some days are better than others. Today all the sniffing, licking, Mouthing objects, repeatedly flushing toilets, flicking lightswitches, and mumbling the same phrase over and over got to me. I think he even chipped a tiny bit of his tooth tonight when he was chewing on the bathroom counter. He barely looked at me all day, unless I got right in his face to make sure he heard and understood me. Some days are better than others, but today he had a hard time not doing these things. It makes me so sad to see these behaviors, and so powerless.
I know it could be worse, so much worse, and I love my son so much, but I felt very alienated from him today, like I am not part of his world, not really.
Therapies start again next week, that could have something to do with it. Or it could just be an off day. Either way, I felt at a loss to help him today.

Re: Today was Hard
Thanks! I feel like my post was whiney, and believe me, I know DS has a lot going fir him despite his diagnosis. But I do find days vary a great deal for him, and yesterday was a day where it was SOOO clear to me that he needs help. Today has been much better.
I think the fact that he had no therapy for a week, plus he changed classrooms, plus he was home with me on a work day may have all thrown him for a loop. It may have been better if I sent him to daycare so he had a routine of sorts. Today our weekend routine is in place. But who knows? Hard to say why these behaviors are out of control one day and less so the next.

Re: Today was Hard
Breaks can be hard. Christams break was a breeze for us, but the Feb. break was awful. This one was OK, but had it's share of challenges. I am always happy when DS is back in the regular routine, since he does so much better with the structure of it.

Re: Today was Hard
The breaks are very hard! By Friday of last week, I was ready for DS to go back and he was ready too!
He went back today and so far, so good. He had a good day with his friends at school, teachers, etc.
He has 3 weeks off in Aug before school starts again in Sept. DH took one of the weeks off, so, hopefully it won't be to bad.
As DS is getting older, I will say, it's getting a bit easier, but, still needs some "tweaking" here and there (with stims and repeating himself, etc).
