Question for btdt parents re: Sunday school
Hi ladies, I'm going to be teaching 2nd grade Sunday hebrew school for the 1st time (I was asked last minute to fill the position)
I have to do a craft project each week. If you sent your dc to Hebrew school in 2nd grade, what did they enjoy making? For example: I was told to have them make rosh hashana cards.
I usually work w 6&7th graders so I'm a bit out of my element.
TIA

Can you cook with them to make apples and honey, challah, hamentashen? Matzah "gingerbread houses" for passover get some cardboard fruit baskets to turn over and decorate as sukkahs plant seeds for tu bishvat science experiment for passover - pepper with water and liquid soap , red food coloring "part the red sea" crate seder plates - ceramic with paint create menorah out of clay or tiles with bolts/nuts
I remember learning the hebrew alphabet. They would give hand outs that we needed to trace. Everyone learned to read and write their hebrew name. We all had to say where our name came from. You could do a project on the meaning of each child's name. Have them draw a picture of what their name means.
We learned about holidays. We learned the basic songs. We learned some basic words - mother, father, names for rooms in the house. I still remember ohel is a tent. As a kid I thought it was funny that we could "curse in class." Maybe do the head, shoulders, knees, toes song in hebrew and have them label those parts of the body in hebrew.

Oh if you google "Working Mom's Hammentashen" it's the easiest recipe ever.
That's my only suggestion. I went to Catholic school but I do make it with my kids and my DH and his friends love it.
