BTDT parents-question about hospital bills
Did you have a lot of hospital bills after you had the baby?
Do they give you payment plans or things like that?
Sorry for the dumb questions, but we were just curious about how much it costs to physically HAVE a baby.

Wait, that was what you had to pay when you left the hospital?

Re: BTDT parents-question about hospital bills
With my son we had to pay co-pays for the OB visits and a co-pay at the hosptial, I think around $500?
With my daughter we had to pay almost $4k out of pocket (he forgave $1k), but that was due to a whole bunch of things that all came together to eff me over. My OB set up a payment plan that gave us almost 2 years to pay it off interest free.
The whole long story is: I didn't go back to work, so my insurance switched to DH's after the baby was born. I told the OBGYN's office every month that they were billing the wrong insurance, and they kept insisting they weren't even though all the denials were from the new insurance and my old insurance had nothing from the OBs office. In the meantime my old company decided to switch insurance and they told the old insurance company not to pay out on claims received after a certain date. By the time my OBs office got their act together it was past that date and my OB held us responsible for his fees, even though I had all the backup (who I spoke to, what was discussed, dates, times) of all the calls I'd made to his office, the insurance company, etc. I'm still pizzed about it.

Re: BTDT parents-question about hospital bills
All I had was a $15 co-pay at the beginning of my pregnancy (Oxford). Everything else was covered in full (well almost all..I'm down to my last appeal with them which they WILL pay ).
Now the baby...well that's a different story. Her bill is around 5k.

That's what I had to pay after I left the hospital. I paid $15 at my first OB visit and that covered all of my visits, etc.
I was in the hospital for 4 days all total.
DS' bill was covered by DH's insurance and we didn't have to pay anything for him.

Re: BTDT parents-question about hospital bills
My first baby I had not a dime to pay after my first $10 co-pay with my first prenatal visit. Everything was covered. $10 for the whole pregnancy and birth with Oxford.
My second, we had a different insurance (EBCBS) and I had a few co-pays along the way (mostly $25 for ultrasounds my doc did for monitoring) and then I had a $500 co-pay for the hospital stay. Everything else was covered.
