Re: Golden Lab or a Golden Retriever?
I think you mean a labrador retriever . Yes, both are great family dogs with the same disposition. I have a labbie myself and she is such a great dog, loves everybody. Although labs are known to be very rambunctious and energetic the first 4 years of their lives. My lab will be 6 in November and she is just starting to calm down, lol.

A lab and golden's coat texture is a little different as far as care goes. The lab's coat is shorter and a golden's is longer and silkier which means you'll have to brush them more and spend a little more time with it.

Re: Golden Lab or a Golden Retriever?
What they said.
There are two types of Labrador Retrievers - English and American. Within those types, there are three colors - Yellow, Black and Chocolate.
Golden Retrievers do have a similar disposition, but they have a longer golden coat. I'm pretty sure they all shed the same but since the Golden coat is longer, it requires more grooming.
Less popular than them are Flat Coated Retrievers and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. I've read that Chessies have a higher drive for things like field work/hunting.
If it's Labs you're interested in, let me know if you have questions about them specifically. I have great resources for them if you're interested.
