I'm usually more of a lurker but I have to say that as a parent whose facebook picture is a photo of my kid, I am not offended by this thread. In some respects I agree with the OP. Then again, I've also had a photo of my dog, or a photo of something else entirely as my picture. It may not be a photo of my face, but it is a representation of "me" in a greater sense and what I am going through at that time. If my facebook friends don't like it they can suckk it.
I do hate seeing CF posts go south because parents and CF posts start duking it out. I think anyone "crashing" another board should be more respectful, especially parents on the CF board of a website catering almost exclusively to parents and families with children, just as they should, and usually are, more respectful on the infertility board, miscarriage board, etc. I also think there should be a little more leeway on those boards because it can be a tough place to be, and sometimes people just need to vent to others in a similar position.
Ftr, I TOTALLY agree with the notion of "if you don't like it you can suck it" 
I was just making an observation and sharing my opinion on it.
Apparently, that's offensive?

I totally agree and yet people seem to make it their business. Crazy, isn't it?!
Definitely crazy. It shouldn't credit or discredit anyone's opinion.

I have used my kids picture as my profile pic. Now imhave me from a recent wedding. Gangs signs are involved, funny sh it.
But I have my kids because my kids are cute and do funny things.
Whatever works for you.

crashing...I have a picture of my baby boy as my profile pic on FB...I never realized that people get irritated by it! I'm not offended at all, I think it's funny that people find it baffling

I do it because I'm terribly unphotogenic and my offspring is ridiculously photogenic. It's really not fair, to be quite honest. But I deal with it..
I also hate looking at pictures myself....I'm too critical.
If I ever do find a picture where I look halfway decent, I'll put that up. But most of the time, I'd rather look at her anyway.

I post my kids because I am proud of them and they are much cuter than me. I like to see their faces or a certain smile, when I am on my page. Granted, I am pretty boring and I am no Heidi Klum, but that is all there is to it.
FTR, I am not offended by this post at all. Although when I was CF, I actually liked when friends had their kids pictures up as profile pics.

I really dont give a $hit what someone else does unless is directly or indirectly effects me.
The only time it annoys me is when Im looking someone up on FB has their kid as their pic and I cant see if it's the person Im looking for,or stalking,or wanting to see if they are now sportin a bad comb over or {insert malicious content here}. But I think that would fall under the category of something indirectly effecting me and my own morbid curiosity.

From a certain standpoint I could see it being baffling but irritating? Nah.
I think someones Facebook page is what ever they want it to be. I have seen things that I certainly can not wrap my brain around but it doesn't irritate me.
Parents are extremely proud of their children. Protective too. I think that's what's behind a lot of the post here.
And let's face it a parent was at one time CF but not vice versa so the CF crowd can not understand their point of view. Sorry but it's true.
Parents who have pics of their children as their profile pic maybe feel that it is at that point and time who they are. YKWIM?
Anyway sometimes you're the one taking the picture so there are none with you in them.

Eh, I agree, irritating was probably the wrong word. Frustrating I think is better.
Parents posting on a CHILDLESS FAMILIES board...need I say more? 
As you stated, I've never had a child, so, no, I don't quite know what you mean when you say that a parent might feel that their child is who they are at that time. (I'm just being honest, not snarky)
My frustration with this stems from looking for someone from my past on FB. How in the world can I be sure who I found IS that person if their name is changed (because they're married) and to boot their profile pic is some little kid?
I guess it was that frustration from this situation that caused my irritation...
I'm totally SHOCKED this thread is STILL going.
This is the thread that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friend. Some people started posting on it, not knowing what it was, and they'll continue posting on it forever!!

crashing again, I see where you can be frustrated if you are trying to find someone..with me, my page is completely private and I love the fact that my last name changed and I don't have a picture of myself as my default because honestly, I don't want anyone else finding me (I am already friends with the people I grew up with, past friends, and familiy members, so it doesnt matter to me that no one else will be able to find me)
ETA: This thread is still going on because everyone is actually being respectful of each other's opinions for once
