Does anyone else find it baffling/somewhat irritating when a parent uses their kids picture for their FB profile pic?
I know in the scheme of things this rates as the fleck of dust on the pimple on the arse of the elephant but it's just one of those things that makes me
Why in the world would you put your child's picture up as your FB profile pic? I get putting up a family shot (at least the owner of the page is in it) but just a single pic of your kid? What gives?
I mean, I love seeing pics of people's children and seeing how they're growing up, I really do dig that! But I just don't get the profile pic thing.
Am I the only nut case this bugs?? Please say I'm not! :hah
Oh and no CF disclaimer...if I've pizzed you off with my OPINION, well, suck it. It's just my crappy opinion.

I will pretend it's because they don't go out and do fun stuff where they take pictures of themselves to put up.

That's what I think. Also, I have someone who has a photo of their nephew up as their profile pic right now. It's not even her kid!

That's a new level of odd to me.
I recently had up a picture of me and my niece and nephew but I've never put up one of just the kids.

Re: Does anyone else find it baffling/somewhat irritating when a parent uses their kids picture for their FB profile pic?
**crashing**
I'll be honest (it's what I'm good at!) - I used to do that with my first child. Here is how I look at it -
I think it's because a lot of people's FB profiles are private these days, so whatever pic you DO post as your main pic has to be pretty spectacular.
I think there is a psychology behind it, even subconsciously.
With one simple pic, your main photo has to convey:
who you are, what you have, where you been, and/or what you've achieved
.....it will be seen by your friends on FB, ---->but more importantly<-----, it will be seen by the people you are NOT friends with.....former high school enemies, former flames, former friends, etc.
I see a lot of main profile pics be either kids (like you originally posted) or of a family unit, a group of friends, a sexy hot bod shot, a shot of someone traveling/doing something exotic, a pic of someone in front of or in a fancy car, or a wedding pic.
I guess it's a way of showing what you've achieved/accomplished to people who may not know fully what you're up to in life...whether it be losing weight & looking great, or having a lavish wedding. It's whatever you are probably currently most proud of.
Human nature, I guess. So I think that's why people post pics of their kid(s) as their main pic.
Plus, it's another way for a parent to show off just one more pic of their kid.

YES, this totally bugs me. FWIW, I have a close GF who used to get annoyed by this too and she swore she would never be one of "those" parents. Two years later and she does it too I guess you see it differently when you have a kid. Oddballs

that annoys me as much as a mom that says her name is "mommy"
I cant stand that because to me its like a woman has lost her idenity. My mom was always Rosana first - a woman, then a mom, then a wife.......
Maybe thats why I choose to not have children... Im too wrapped up in my identity!

Yeah, this always makes me sad. It makes me feel like that person has lost their original identity.

I guess this is how I feel about it. And also I'm incredibly vain and I want my profile picture to include me in some way shape or form. I've had many photos of me with my little cousins but never just of them. I'm also not one to have a photo of Lionel Ritchie as my profile pic though.

This is definitely what is- facebook is nothing more than a competition and I'll be the first to admit I've posted some sexy boudoir shots (cropped, naturally) or some wedding shots but I've never posted a picture of just my DH as a way to show him off or just a photo of my dogs as a way to show them off. I'm always in the picture, too.

I never gave it much thought. The only time I'm slightly annoyed is when they have no picture at all and I want to see how much weight they've gained since high school.

well, the way i look at it is this...
they're not you - this is a page about you, so why would anyone put up a pic of their child or niece or nephew? i could see a group shot with you and the kids but just the kids? it doesn't make sense to me.
this is my thought for someone using a picture of their child as their profile pic too.
i think pics like the lionel richie thing is just funny. i've done stuff like that before, just for the laugh but mainly the pics i put up for my profile pic are just of me.

I am guilty of making my dog my profile pic. Is that the same?

Meh, kinda. But at least he/she is your dog and not someone else's.

I dont like it either...whats funny is that a friend who had kids did this and i completely forgot she had kids, and posted a comment on her wall saying "i love your new profile pic, oh my gawd you were so cute as a baby!"
Actually the more i think about it, i should just make my own profile pic a baby pic of me!

No, this doesn't hit my radar. I have friends with all kinds of avatar pics....scenic shots, baby pics, cartoons, quotes, other family members, random images as well as their own picture.

Re: Does anyone else find it baffling/somewhat irritating when a parent uses their kids picture for their FB profile pic?
That definitely would kind of annoy me when I was CF also. Even though I'm a mom now, I still make sure that my profile pic has me in it. I won't put just one of my child only.
It's MY profile and the profile pic should have ME in it. Since having my child I have definitely had a bunch of pics of my DD in it too, but never alone. Just not my style.
