Karate/mixed martial arts for 3 year old?

I would like to put DS in some sort of Karate/mma class? Any suggestions in the Nassau area? TIA!!!

We have a family member who owns a dojo and they recommend that a child not start in martial arts until some point during their kindergarten year

Place we went did a trial lesson to see if they were ready, but this was not until 4. They have acepted kids younger if they were mature enough. Anyone that will take your money for a kid that young without checking is he is ready is not a place you want to be going.

For that age the only sport we could find to get them involved in was soccer, or something at the sports center - soccer tots or baseball tots.

Tiger Schulmann's used to have a 3yo "karate" program, but it was more like gymboree with a karate theme. Padded things to climb on and over, kicking pads, etc. It was really to just keep them learning to focus, pay attention, and get exercise. Definitely not a "karate" class.

DD just started karate and she will be 4 the end of the month. Like a PP said, before the place took one dime, she got a private lesson with the head sensei and 2 regular group lessons to make sure she could handle it.
