Can I vent for a moment? UPDATE
I am a 33 yr old attorney with 7 years of experience who has now been unemployed for almost 14 months. I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
I have been continually applying, networking, trying to sell myself, look for jobs above and below my skill level, looking for jobs in totally different industries and still, nada.
I do get interviews, and I think that 3 yrs ago I may have gotten some of these positions, but am now being told that "we wanted someone with less experience" aka cheaper, when the listing was for someone with my exact experience.
I don't know what to do anymore. Unemployment runs out soon, my poor husband is stressed beyond belief keeping us afloat and we may have to sell his car soon to cut down on monthly expenses.
I will keep at it, but really just needed to vent and let it all out. Anyone else feeling this way? I want to scream sometimes!!!
UPDATE: I think the job gods finally heard my prayers, I got a great offer this week and start next week. YAYAYAYAY!! My husband and I are so happy and relieved. I hope everyone looking sticks with it and eventually finds work. Thanks for the support ladies!

Re: Can I vent for a moment?
Just wanted to say I'm sorry. I'm also a lawyer, and I know the job market is really tough right now. Have you looked at some positions that might pay less, but could be enjoyable? Maybe at a not-for-profit? Are you litigation, corporate, something else?

I have been looking at everything and in the past couple of months cut my salary request by about 20%. I am a litigation attorney, but not married to the ideal of staying in litigation. At this point, I just want a job, lol. Then once things have stabilized I can reevaluate my career and where I want it to go.
What kind of law do you practice? Have you seen any growth in your firm/industry? It's interesting, some attorneys I speak to seem to have a pulse on the industry and others look at me like I am crazy for not having found something.

Re: Can I vent for a moment?
I am sorry you are going through this.
I work in a different field health/human services and see so much whining, complaining and negativity all day with a couple of co-workers, and really wish I could wave a magic wand and replace them with those of you who are out of work and would be GRATEFUL for any opportunity right now.
It makes me sick.
Don't want to jack your thread though.
I hope some doors will open for you and others going through this right now.
