At what age is this diagnosed???
My DD has just finished testing thru Early Intervention. They called the next day to inform me that she has "red flags" and is "displaying signs" of being on "the spectrum"...is this PDD???
Im confused. Unfortunatley I have to wait until the 28th for a full explanation
She turnded 2 in July

Re: PDD ???? a few questions

my son was diagnosed at 18 months. She is probably displaying some characteristics of Autism. But not all to be given that diagnosis. If they are displaying some of the characteristics....they will give the pdd-nos.

Re: PDD ???? a few questions

I have 2 on the spectrum and they are like night and day. My 7 year old is autistic and was dx. at 3 (not through a physc. either, he had 2 evulations done 1 at 18 mths. and 1 at 26 mths. and both were saying he fell short of a dx.) but he's always been severely delayed with everything. Before 3 he was just a very quite, silent kid. Right before he turned 3 he started stimming and it just progressivley got worse. I took him to a Dev. Pedi right after his b-day and he said without a doubt he was autistic. He's 7 now and still non verbal and his biggest challenges are speaking and stimming all the darn time.
My other guy is totally different. He was progressing fine and at 17 months he wasn't saying more than a few words. Called EI and got him speech. After a month she suggested to have have a phsyc done again. My heart dropped, he was doing so well but he then got a dx of PDD NOS. The man was so nice and told me that he would strive and keep moving, he just needed to be taught everything. He was right. He's 3 now and has full language, understands and communicates- he's doing super. Still has some quirks here and there and has to be shown how to do things but his connections are far better than my other guy. Hope I answered your questions in my mini-book. (sorry for an sp errors my little one is climbing all over me)

Re: PDD ???? a few questions

All responses are very helpful! Thank you. What scares me the most is it seems like many children sort seem to get lost in it. Like they seem pretty much typical than they get lost to autisim.
I know it is very controversial but i am curious about your feelings of the MMR. please inbox me if you want on this. Thank you again

Re: PDD ???? a few questions

My 7 year old I never delayed any shots. My 3 year old I delayed until 3 so for my kids it didn't change anything. I wish more than anything that it could be figured out already so all the new babies out there could be prevented from thisChat Icon

Re: PDD ???? a few questions

DS was unofficially diagnosed at 15 months and officially at 18... Reason being since he was my first and there is no history of autism in my family (blood lined) they felt 15 months was too early, this was also almost 4 years ago.

He has a classic autism diagnosis. There was no doubt in my mind at 6 months he was off developmentally and when he was speaking clear as day at 8 months red flags went off, and then at a year he lost all speech.

I do not feel the MMR had anything to do with it. Again I noticed delays at 6 months and I also delayed the MMR until his officially diagnosis.

I do feel one of the shots triggered something... But I won't get I to that.

Red flags and displaying signs could mean autism or PDD.

AJ is now 4. He is verbal, super smart and will most likely be put into district next year.

My biggest thing was to keep him around his typical friends. It paid off.

I don't feel AJ has gotten "lost" in fact I feel the complete opposite. He is treated like any NT child, has NT friends, has playdates with NT friends, and yes there are time where his meltdowns have interfered but for the most part he is not lost and he is accepted everywhere.

Re: PDD ???? a few questions

Thank you and sorry if the term upset you. Im just online and that seems to be the term parents are using. Maybe I am more lost on this because google is information overload and can conflict.

I'm also a single mother now so it has been difficult. Hopefully the Early intervention Team will explain as much as possible this week

She is due for her MMR and i am very nervous about it

Re: PDD ???? a few questions

If she's not in daycare you call the shots. (so to speak) until they reach school age you can do whatever you feel is best. Don't get me wrong they will voice their opinions but in the end you chose.
My son has always been lost, it breaks my heart but I know he's in there, somehow, someday I will pull him out. It's just taking him longer.
My 3 yearl old has never been lost or in that zone as I put it. He's always right there with us so every kid is different.
