Dog's Allergies-- No Grain Diet

does anybody else's dog have an allergy to wheats, barleys, just grains in general? we just found out that our dog is allergic to grains. we bought him new food without any grains (I didn't even know they made dog food like this!). is it common for dogs to be allergic to grains? and does your dog have terrible gas from this type of food as well? it's been about a week that he's been eating this food and the gas is still unbearable....

Very common allergen, as is white meat believe it or not. What food did you purchase? We have 1 dog with possible grain allergies, started feeding Natural Balance and then switched to Evo.

The gas could be because of the richness of a really good quality food. Could you mix it with something less rich, but that doesn't have grains? Sometimes you have to try different things to see what they do best on.

Re: Dog's Allergies-- No Grain Diet

Wheat, corn and soy are common food allergens for dogs. Once we took all of these items out of my dog's diet his gas went away. He eats Solid Gold Wolf king. I have also given him wellness and blue buffalo with out any ill effects. If your dog is still having gas it may be a sign that some thing is still bothering him- according to my vet gas is a sign that something is wrong with the dog's digestion.

that's what i was afraid of. i either thought that his body needed to adjust to the new food or that the new food wasn't the right fit for him. we switched his food to nature's variety- instinct, but we bought a small bag to try it out. i'm going to buy a different brand of grain free food and hopefully it doesn't bother him.

Thank you for all the responses!
