Women in the workplace!
I went to an AWNY (Advertising Women of NY) luncheon that was about Mentors and Mentees yesterday and Wendy Clark, who is the SVP of Marketing at Coca Cola spoke.
2 things-
-she was the BEST public speaker I've ever seen. Like amazing. She had 400 people wrapped around her finger.
-she said something that resonated so much with me... "if you are a woman in power and you don't take the time to help the women underneath you advance...there is a special place in hell for you!"
My old boss did everything to have me not succeed. My new boss is her polar opposite...and it made me laugh.
Side note, she is also a mother. She talked about how her mentor understood being a working mother and how that helped her BE a better mother.
If you ever have a chance to meet or hear Wendy speak she is amaaaaaaaaaaaazing! Just wanted to share.

Re: Women in the workplace!
It's sp great to hear a woman in power speak like that because so many other womedon't seem to think the same way.
I worked in media and my boss, despite being a mother of two herself, never seemed to care that we had families or cared about developing us and helping us grow and get ahead. I ended up leaving shortly after coming back from maternity leave because she ignored the fact that I had a child and expected our lives to revolve around the job. It makes me sad because I wanted to stay but was put in such a difficult position simply by having a child.
Now I'm stay at home and looking to work again so hearing words like that is really encouraging and gives me hope that there can be a balance and one CAN be successful given the right circumstances.

Re: Women in the workplace!
I work in a female dominated field, and totally get what you/she is saying, but at the same time, there are some women out there in the workplace who are just plain annoying for lack of a better term, cannot or refuse to take time to figure out things they can google themselves, cannot work independently and do take advantage at work because "they have kids".
I am saying this AS a mother too ;).
I also have worked in plenty of environments with women who just want to pass the buck.
I see this A LOT at work right now in fact with several female colleagues.
It's pretty bad when you call them to follow up on something that is their responsibility and the first thing out of their mouth is "I did not sign up for this, this is not my job."
I RARELY hear stuff like this from my male colleagues.
Just sayin'.

Haha one of her other things was ' there is no job beneath you...'
She started as a receptionist even though she had a 4 year degree! And look at her now!
