Treadmill accident, almost

Almost just had a treadmill accident. Wow. Got on the treadmill, pushed 5 mph to warm up, and thing thing starts going at max speed, like 10 mph. I am sprinting and push 1 mph to slow it down with no response. Then i push stop, nothing. At this point i jump my feet off to the sides and pull out the safety. Its stil going max speed. Have to pull the plug from the wall to stop it. That is really dangerous,do you think i should bother complaining to the company? Its proform. It is a few years old and used a lot. I am not the original owner either.

Holy cow, that's so scary. I think about that every time I get on the treadmill!

I'd definitely say something to the company, or maybe see if there's other people out there who had similar problems.

I don't know if I'd keep using it. Chat Icon

I def can't use it. The same thing keeps happening! it won't slow down.

I took a video/ link
As you can see, started it at 1 mph. It goes 10+ mph. Push stop, it doesn't stop. Pull out the safety, it doesn't stop. Have to unplug it from the wall to stop it. And this actually happened with me ON the treadmill.

OMG that's really scary. Treadmills in general scare me though and Im always afraid of something like that happening to me. I almost fell off of one once and ever since then I've been nervous. I'm always super cautious now. Thankfully you didn't get hurt.

I would definitely complain to the company!

OMG that's so scarey! I'm always afraid of that happening...especially when I start to zone out!

I would definitely write a letter! Glad you are ok!

I would definitely get it serviced. You can try writing to the company, but I doubt their is little they'll do, since that type of equipment goes through a lot of wear & tear. (I used to manage gyms)

is this something that happens often?

(not expecting the company to do anything for me, since its an older treadmill and I am not even the orig owner - i just thought it was very dangerous and they should know - am i wrong is this a common problm?)

Yes, I have seen it happen before. I think it's something to do with the timing on the belt. but it's been a while since managing fitness centers.

Call a repair company & see if they can tell you the cost for your treadmill & decide if it's worthwhile. But it can happen again!
