Pet names... <sigh>
Yes... I am one of THOSE people... We're having pups, not kids...
But I was curious... How do you name your Furbaby??
for me...My first... His daddy was a pure breed.. so I named him after his dad... Maxwell D'bear Jr. (Max)
and then I rescued a Pure Breed German Shepard who was Vesta Lolita D'Everette.... Not my choice, but on her papers... We called her Vessa.
And I got my (now) cats and dogs...
I fully admit - I'm crazy!! I do make sure my "kids" have first and last names!!
So...my very first cat - Sophia Chaton Dulik... "Sophie"
My second cat...my sister had her...wanted her named "sprinkles".. She got named "Sage Gato"... Sage...
Chaton is french for "little cat" and Gato is spanish for "cat"..
And then on to my Dogs...
Delilah Rose... Nick names... Lilah.. wiley cayote... cayote... mama... (she answers to them all!!)
Sampson Sonny...(the sunny is ironically after my dad...Long story!) Sam..Sammy...Sampson, Samsonite (well - sampsonite luggate ;)
OK - so am I the only Crazy one?!?!? (and yes... I am so completely ready to be the insane one... but...)
What and Why did you name your fur-kids???

Re: Pet names... <sigh>
I'm one of THOSE people too :)
Three cats in our family.
My kitty (from pre-DH time) is Mudd. I found him outside of Castle Heights, a metal bar that used to be in Jackson Heights on Northern Blvd. He was a kitten, about 10 weeks old, just chillin' in front of the bar. I scooped him up and put him in my hoodie and zipped him in there, head peeping out. On the drive home, Primus' "My Name is Mud" came on the radio...and so, he was crowned 'Mudd'. Two 'D's just because.
Then there is Punk. He is DH's cat. We rescued him from a home where he was being beat up on by the other two cats in the home. His name doesn't suit him...he sure isn't a punk at all. Sometimes we call him Charles. It fits him more. We can call him anything, so long as we don't call him late for dinner.
And then we have Ladybird. She was born in the garage and abandoned by her mama, along with another kitty, Ralphie, who didn't survive. Ladybird's growth is a little stunted...I guess because she was abandoned so early in life. DH bottle-raised her, waking every couple of hours to make sure she was nourished. She gained her name due to a love of 'King of the Hill', a favorite show of our's. The dog in the show is named Ladybird.
They're our kitty kat kiddos.
Eta: Ralphie survived for 13 days after we found him. We buried him in our yard and named our 1972 Dodge Dart after him, because the car was a similar color to Ralphie's coat.

Re: Pet names... <sigh>
no kids here...only pups..
#1 Buddy...our Cavalier...we had no name...everyone kept saying "hey Buddy" when they met him...we went to the vet and they asked his name...we looked at each other and said, "Buddy."
#2 Belle our rescue was a dirty stray from the streets with messed up teeth and a bad snaggle tooth...kind of ugly when we first got her...haha..but her loving personality shined through and her beautiful brown eyes with lashes made us call her Belle...for Belle of the Ball

We have 3 cats.
Koal is all black
Jersey Cow is white with black spots (which is why DH was so adamant about naming him after a cow lol)
and Maggie Moo is a calico. Jersey and Maggie are litter mates, and Koal is our "relationship kitty" because we have had him since we started dating

<-----------Disney.
Disney World is a special place for DH and I. So that was a no brainer.
If we get a dog, DH wants to name it Geddy, after Geddy Lee from Rush.

<---Misty
Because that was her name when we adopted her from the shelter. We were planning on coming up with a name ourselves, but in the day between when we first saw her and when we actually took her home, we had referred to her as Misty so much that it just kinda stuck.
E.T.A. My cat who passed away last year was named Casey. Started out as K.C. (which stood for Kitty Cat. I was a pretty creative 8 year old )

Re: Pet names... <sigh>
DH and I love sushi. We were going over a lot of names the night after we adopted our kitty. I remember driving somewhere and said to DH, "what about Sushi?" His reply was that his stomach hurt and wasnt in the mood. I said no...not to EAT but a name for the cat! The name stuck. When we adopted our second cat we were going to name him Sake...but somehow that seemed more of a girl name. Miso seemed more masculine...although in hindsight Wasabi would probably have fit his personality better

Re: Pet names... <sigh>
We kinda just name them whatever we feel like works for them. Our collie mix we adopted the day Steve Irwin passed away. We were listening to something on the radio about him and talking about him in the car on the way home from North Shore. I wanted to name him Fagan (from Oliver Twist) but there was something not quite right about that name. We tried a few other names but none of them fit.... I joked that we should name him Irwin and his ears perked up. And so it stuck. Irwin he is. Somehow, it fits him perfectly.
And same thing went for Lucy. We were just trying names on for size and I mentioned Lucy and everyone said that she really looked like a Lucy. And so it stuck. Lucy, she is!

Re: Pet names... <sigh>
My 13 year old german shepard/beagle mix was adopted from NSAL.
In the waiting room (to see if we were approved), a little boy was with his grandmother and she asked him "What are you naming your puppy?" and he said "ROSIE!"
And I thought to myself (16 at the time). "Hey, that's not a bad name. Don't mind if I do." And I named her rosie totally stole it from a little boy.
As for our pomeranian, we chose him from the litter when he was only 4 weeks. So for 4 more weeks until he was ready to come home, DH and I debated over his name. Well, our friends came to visit us a couple of weeks before he was to come home and they also tried to help us pick a name. We took them for brunch in this town called Nutley in NJ and my friend said jokingly, "you should name him Nutley." Well, when he came home and still didn't have a name, that's what we named him
As for our third, a very spontaneous albeit irresponsible purchase. He was the saddest looking puppy but when we took him home he was all over the place and falling and climbing on everything and just an all around Goober. And that's what we named him

Re: Pet names... <sigh>
Sandy - I called her that because I had a sheep dog growing up called Sandy that I just loved. She also is the color of sand kinda. But mostly we call her Pretty now & she answers to it.
Toby - used to be Kolby when we rescued him. We also used to call him OB1 or toby- obie. We had to put him to sleep last year. Still miss him.
Trixie - came to us as Trixie. We couldnt agree on a new name so we left it. But we call her Stinkybell or Trixiebell or Stinky.

Re: Pet names... <sigh>
I'm totally one of those people...
Darwin's actual registered name is
"Little Handsom Man, Darwin Maxwell"
I researched name meanings as if I was having a human child and when I found out the name "Darwin" meant "dear friend" or "beloved friend" depending on where I saw it I couldn't think of a better name for my new pup. The name Maxwell was after the Golden I had growing up. The "little handsome man" was because the breeder we got him from had something like that in front of all of her dogs names and I wanted to do something along those lines as well. When I first met him those were the first words out of my mouth. "My little handsome man!!!"
We're thinking Huxley for our next dog because Thomas Huxley was someone who was influenced by Charles Darwin. He was actually known as "Darwin's Bulldog" so we thought that was fitting. We don't have a middle name or prefix yet though.

Re: Pet names... <sigh>
Our Dog's name is Charlie Sunshine.
We adopted her from the shelter and she is a terrier mix. About 15 pounds, and she is just a scruffy little thing, very tom-boy-ish.
So there is a show on the Disney Channel called "Good Luck Charlie" and my daugher got the Charlie from that show.
And Sunshine...well, that was another name that we were considering for her but it did better as a middle name.
Sometimes when she's been shredding paper towels, which is her one bad habit, we call her Charlene Sunshine and then she knows she's in big trouble!

Re: Pet names... <sigh>
We got our 2 cavapoos together.
For 2 days they had no names. So we called them by their official coat colors "Mr Red" and "Mr Black". One is "poodle red"... blond with redish tone and the other one is black.
But I ended up leaving it to DH to find names. And him in an office FULL of guys thought those names were best.
Crockett and Tubbs....I am sure you guys can figure out where that came from.
For the bullmastiff puppy.
His name is Maximus (Max).

I am one of those people too. Shamrock was going to be named Teddy until he was born on St Patricks Day. So we went though a whole bunch of "Irish sounding names" and came up with Shamrock. His AKC papers show Shamrock Patrick. He also answers to Shammy.
